UFC 249’s main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson seems to be off after the Lightweight champion cancelled his participation in the clash.

Khabib has been stuck in Russia for the past few weeks after he left the USA to continue his training.

Ferguson, for his part, has been in America and has constantly called out the champion for the fight.

Dana White had been adamant that the fight would go on, but Khabib set the UFC world on fire by announcing that he would not be fighting on 18 April.

Social media, safe to say, wasn’t too pleased with the champion’s decision and lashed out, but Ali Abdelaziz wasn’t taking any of this.

Khabib’s agent came out in support of the champion and claimed that the real story would be out soon.

Khabib is stuck in Russia as there is a travel ban to and from the country, and the champion had his own update too.

Champion wants people to be in his shoes

The UFC cancelled three other events leading up to UFC 249 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

White didn’t even reveal the location of UFC 249 and has kept that a secret. The fight is on 18 April, and it will be interesting to see if the event still goes ahead.

Khabib, however, wanted people to think about the situation before commenting. The champion suggested that people should be in his shoes before deciding on taking on the fight.

Most top sports leagues around the world have suspended operations, and none of them plan to be back before July, at least.

Khabib added that he was disappointed at having to call off the fight, but this isn’t the first time the curse has struck.

Ferguson and Khabib were to meet four times in the past too. However, each fight was cancelled for some reason or another.
