Naomi Osaka is one of the brightest talents in women’s Tennis and is set to dominate the scene for a few more years.

The Japanese has spent most of her formative years in the US and shook the world in 2018 by defeating Serena Williams in the final of the US Open.

Early beginnings 

Osaka was born in Japan and has a Haitian father and Japanese mother. The 22-year-old’s father then helped train her by making the youngster watch videos of the Williams sisters.

The family shifted again when she was 15 to Florida in hopes of getting better training and developing her skills. 

As the youngster developed her talent, her family decided she would represent Japan, although she was brought up in the United States.

She also has an older sister, Mari, who is also a professional Tennis player.

From 2011 to 2015 Osaka was slowly making her mark on the Tennis circuit. She turned professional before the age of 16 and was able to play a couple of Grand Slam tournaments in 2015.

She didn’t make it to the main draw of the US Open or Wimbledon in 2015 but she fared much better next year.

Osaka reached the third round in the Australian, French and US opens but didn’t participate in Wimbledon.

All the while, he rank was rising and she had history in 2018 by winning the US Open by defeating Serena Williams. 

She became the first Japanese star to win a Grand Slam singles title and won the 2019 Australian Open too.

However, she hasn’t been able to replicate the form in other slams and failed to reach even the quarter-finals in the other six Grand Slams, despite being ranked #1 in a few.

Osaka has represented Japan in both the Federation Cup and Hopman Cup and is looking to continue winning more Grand Slam titles in the years to come.

The Japanese star’s exploits have made her one of the best paid female athletes in the world.

Forbes claimed she was one of the highest paid stars in 2019 and winning the two Grand Slams helped her amass $8.3 million in prize money. Naomi Osaka’s total prize money is around $14.6m.

She has had endorsement deals with MasterCard, Procter & Gamble, Nissan and All Nippon Airways also saw her earn around $16m.

The 22-year-old also has a deal with Nike which is worth millions of dollars. The Japanese star also has deals with brands such as Yonex, Nike, Nissan Motors, Mastercard, ANA, Citizen Watch, Shiseido and Wowow. 

Her endorsement deals were one of the biggest in Tennis and she was only behind Serena Williams in that list in 2019.
