Phillip Rivers was a great quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers for a long time. Chargers fans were worried about what would happen to their franchise after Rivers decided to retire.

They knew replacing him wouldn’t be easy, but the franchise did a great job of doing it. They drafted Justin Herbert from Oregon, and he has been phenomenal for them.

Even though he hasn’t reached the playoffs yet, the future is quite bright for the Chargers. They made some great moves in the offseason, and they are a Super Bowl contender this season.

Phillip Rivers talked about the Chargers drafting Justin Herbert and said, “They got that one right,” He added, “I pull like crazy for the Chargers and I pull for Justin Herbert in particular, just because I think it’s awesome that I was able to be there for 16 years. Hopefully, he can be there for another 16.”

Phillip Rivers compare himself and Justin Herbert to Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers

Phillip Rivers compared his and Justin Herbert’s situation to what happened in Green Bay years ago. Aaron Rodgers had to replace Brett Favre, another legendary quarterback, and Rodgers himself became a legend of the game.

Phillip Rivers said, “I always thought it’s cool you look at the Packers, you can say, ‘Who’s been their quarterback the last 40 years? [Brett] Favre and [Aaron] Rodgers.’ You don’t want it to go the Browns’ version, with 30 starters in the last 25 years. With Herbert, it was time for me to be done there, and then they nailed that pick.”

Justin Herbert is certainly explosive, similar to Aaron Rodgers, and has a strong arm like the Packers quarterback as well. Hopefully, he will be able to replicate the career that Rodgers has had so far.
