Whether it’s Paul Pogba’s classic ‘Dab’ routine. Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’ pirouette or Erling Haaland’s Meditation pose. A new celebration has emerged into football’s consciousness in 2022 known as ‘The Griddy’. Here is everything you need to know about the celebration.

1. What is ‘The Griddy’?

‘The Griddy’ is a dance move that has been used as a celebration by athletes across several sports. At first, the NFL stars began dancing a touchdown celebration in 2020 and since then it has become a regular feature.

2. Which footballers mainly do ‘The Griddy’?

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic is one of the biggest names to do the Griddy celebration in football. He used it as a celebration in a Champions League match against Lille in February.

Pulisic scored the Blues’ second goal of the game in a 2-0 victory against Lille at Stamford Bridge and attempted the popular dance celebration.

The USMNT official Twitter account subsequently tweeted, “Hit the Griddy, CP”, to which the official Chelsea Twitter account replied, “Not sure what this is, but we’re here for it.”

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher danced as a part of CBS Sports ‘Champions League coverage with the help of former England star Alex Scott.

3. How to do ‘The Griddy’

NFL star Jefferson was the first NFL player to do ‘The Griddy”. Jefferson has given plenty of instructions on how to do The Griddy dance.

  • Tap the heels
  • Swing the arms back and forth
  • ‘Throw your Bs’ (make glasses)
  • Speed it up

The dance involved tapping the ground with the back of your heels while simultaneously swinging your arms back and forth the next step is to make a pair of glasses with your hands up to your face, also referred to as ‘Throw your Bs’. Once you have the hang of it, the next thing is to speed it all up.

4. The Griddy has now become an in-game celebration in FIFA 23

The latest FIFA 23 trailer brought many new experiences and changes including new goal sounds, improved fan graphics, and the ability to play music in-game. However, it also revealed new celebrations.

The iconic one is ‘The Griddy’ now features in-game. It was showcased by Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic.

Fans can’t get enough of Pulisic’s Griddy in FIFA 23. On August 5 a clip of the Griddy’s inclusion in FIFA 23 was shared on Twitter by FIFA23News and it got more than 35,000 upvotes in just a few hours.

FIFA 23 players are already promising to hit the Griddy every time after scoring a goal in Clubs and FUT in the game and since it has been added as a celebration, that means any player in the game can burst it out after a goal.

That means we could see the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, and other legends of the game doing this silly little dance in FIFA 23. It will be interesting to see who will look the best in doing so.
