Team Deathmatch

This is one of the most simple Modern Warfare 2 game modes. Its just as a classic team deathmatch would be. Six teams of six players compete against each other to go for 75 kills. When the score limit is not reached, games will be ended by a time limit. In most cases, this mode is played on small to medium-sized maps such as Farm 18 and Breenbergh Hotel.

Domination

In this, you have to capture and hold three objectives in order to earn points. There is no time limit and matches only end when a team reaches 200 points

Invasion

Invasion is one of the first modes in MW II which features a big map such as Sariff Bay and Sa’id. It is a 20v20 match, with 40 players battling out against AI enemies. Players are placed in a 4 member team with their task being to opposing teams trying to eliminate each other.

Ground War

This is the same as Invasion but in the form of a large-scale Team Deathmatch. Some players might even find it similar to Domination as well. There are 32 huge teams battling each other to emerge victorious. Here, Objectives need to be captured and held, just like Domination.

Prisoner Rescue

It’s a 6 team match where teams must locate and extract hostages. There will be no respawns and if attacking team gets eliminated, they lose. The defending team must try to eliminate their opponents in order to stop the extraction.

Knock Out

This is a 6v6 match with no respawns. There is a package that is held by teams to earn points and win. However, this mode is mostly based on elimination. It has multiple rounds which can be played through to conclude a match.

Hardpoint

Teams in 6v6 setting need to capture a moving objective called Hardpoint and defend it to earn points. It is a round-based match and each team must reach the score limit to emerge victorious. It is set mostly on smaller maps.

Search and Destroy

Similar to CS: GO and Valorant, one team plants a bomb and defends it. The other team needs to find the bomb and defuse it before the impact of the bomb. It is set on smaller maps and has quick rounds.

Free-for-all

Here, you have to eliminate every player in sight. The first player to reach 30 kills wins the match. This is one of the most played Modern Warfare 2 game modes.

Headquarters

Here, players need to capture the Headquarters and then defend it. Respawns are disabled in this mode and the team needs to hold on to the objective. Furthermore, new zones are then released upon completion. The first team to reach 200 points wins the match.

Control

Two objectives are attacked and defended in turn. The attacking team gains more time to grab the second objective if it takes one objective. When the time runs out before both objectives are taken, the defending team wins. Additionally, either team can win by clearing the other’s pool of 30 lives. The first team to win three rounds wins the match.

Kill Confirmed

In Kill Confirmed, you must not only shoot your opponent – you must also grab their dog tags once they’ve fallen. If your team is able to pick up a set of tags, you will gain a point, while if your team’s enemies are able to pick up your allies’ tags, they will lose a point.
