1. Distraint: Deluxe Edition

The video game DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition was created by Jesse Makkonen and released by Ratalaika Games. On September 10, 2019, it was made available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita via the PlayStation Network.

In the 2D adventure game DISTRAINT, a man by the name of Price works for a firm that takes property from people. He has to take on some of the firm’s most challenging projects, like evicting an elderly woman, a recluse in the woods, and a drug addict from their homes, if he hopes to gain the desired partnership.

The gap between greed and humanity is DISTRAINT’s overarching theme. But Price is never truly presented as a bad guy. The only things he really wants are a functioning coffee maker and a leak-proof house for rainy days. He is not seeking enormous wealth.

2. Into the Dead 2

Next up we have a first-person shooter video game, Into the Dead 2. After a zombie apocalypse, players take control of a character who is trying to get back to his family. For the main part of the game, the character runs automatically and has to avoid zombies, much like in Endless Runner games. Players can use a knife to break free from a zombie’s hold the first time they encounter one on a level. They are then put to death.

Numerous weapons, such as handguns, rifles, shotguns, crossbows, and grenades, are available for players to obtain and upgrade. Power-ups and indestructible animal pals are also offered.

3. Dead by Daylight

Behaviour Interactive, a Canadian studio, created the online asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game Dead by Daylight. In this one-on-one game, four players assume the roles of Survivors and a Killer, with the Killer having to impale each Survivor on sacrificial hooks to placate the Entity, a malevolent force, while the Survivors must cooperate to fix five generators to power up the exit gates and avoid being caught.

In the asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight, there are five players: one is the Killer and the other four are Survivors. Trials are the term used for matches. The Survivors aim to power the two exit gates by fixing five of the seven generators strewn across the trial to escape. All Survivors will be sacrificed to an evil entity called the Entity if the Killer doesn’t impale them on hooks before they can escape.

4. Poppy Playtime

Mob Entertainment, an independent American developer, created and released the horror video game Poppy Playtime in episodic form. Ten years after the employees of Playtime Co. vanished, the player assumes the character of a former worker who returns to the company’s shuttered toy factory. Playing from a first-person point of view, the player must avoid numerous opponents and solve puzzles, some of which require the use of a device called the GrabPack, to advance.

In the horror video game Poppy Playtime, the player assumes the role of a former worker for Playtime Co. who, after learning of the staff’s presumed disappearance ten years earlier, returns to the company’s shuttered toy factory. When the player learns that the factory is full of toys that are hostile and alive, they begin to search for a way out of the building. The factory is filled with several VHS cassettes, each of which provides a longer and more detailed description of the narrative.

5. Dead Effect 2

Dead Effect 2’s gameplay principles are reminiscent of those of the first game. You can move your finger across the touch screen to control movement and aim in the default setup, which uses a virtual joystick on the left of the screen.

However, there are two shortcut buttons on the left and right of the screen that allow the player to quickly turn 90 degrees to the left or right. Using virtual buttons on the right side of the screen, you can shoot, switch between weapons, utilize explosives, use iron sights, reload, and go into slow motion. From the main menu, you can personalize the controls, moving each icon to suit their preferences.

6. Five Nights at Freddy’s Series

Scott Cawthon created the video game series and media franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF). Since the initial video game’s August 8, 2014 release, the resulting series has been more well-known worldwide.

A fictional family pizza business company called “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza” is the setting for the nine video games in the main series, which is named after its animatronic mascot, Freddy Fazbear. Most games put the player in the shoes of a nighttime employee, who has to protect himself against animatronic characters that haunt the premises and turn hostile and mobile at night by using resources like lights, doors, vents, and security cameras. The voice acting, minigames, and Easter eggs woven throughout the games all contribute to the progressive unveiling of the series’ lore.

7. Slayaway Camp

Robert Hiltzik is the writer and director of the 1983 American slasher film Sleepaway Camp, which stars Felissa Rose, Katherine Kamhi, Paul DeAngelo, Mike Kellin (in his final role), and Christopher Collet (in his debut). It is the first movie in the Sleepaway Camp movie series and centers on a string of killings that take place in a summer camp for young people.

In the deadly puzzle game Slayaway Camp, you take control of Skullface, a psychotic slasher who is determined to kill camp counselors at the titular campground. In this darkly humorous tribute to 80s horror, you must guide a cute voxel killer through hundreds of isometric puzzle levels, squashing, flaying, and beheading unfortunate victims.

8. Limbo

Developed by independent studio Playdead, Limbo is an Xbox 360 puzzle-platform game with horror elements first released by Microsoft Game Studios. Since its July 2010 Xbox Live Arcade launch, Playdead has brought the game to many other platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, and the PlayStation 3. Limbo is a two-dimensional side-scrolling game that uses physics to control both the player’s character and the objects in the environment.

In the process of looking for his sister, the player leads an unidentified child through perilous situations and traps. The riddles in the game were designed with the expectation that the player will fail before figuring out the right answer. Playdead referred to the play’s style as “trial and death” and employed graphic descriptions of the boys’ deaths to sway the player away from unrealistic answers.

9. Alan Wake 2

In contrast to its predecessor, Alan Wake, which was an action-adventure game with a horror theme, Alan Wake 2 is a third-person survival horror game. In two distinct single-player tales, which can be played in whatever order the player pleases, you take on the roles of Alan Wake and Saga Anderson, respectively. However, only Saga or Alan can be played during the opening and ending sequences.

Using a lantern that can be “focused” to make adversaries more susceptible to firearm strikes, Wake and Anderson use it to navigate environments and combat enemies. Players must strategically employ a limited supply of ammunition and batteries in order to live as focusing the flashlight depletes its battery. Alan or Saga can execute a dodge move when the enemy is getting close.

10. Resident Evil 4

2005 saw the release of Capcom’s survival horror title Resident Evil 4[b] for the GameCube. In order to save Ashley Graham, the daughter of the US president, who has been abducted by a religious cult in rural Spain, players assume control of special agent Leon S. Kennedy. Reunited with spy Ada Wong, Leon battles legions of foes affected by a parasite that controls the mind. Resident Evil 4 has an action-packed gameplay and dynamic camera system, which is a change from the slower gameplay and fixed camera angles of the previous Resident Evil games.
