EVO 2022 Announcements

Street Fighter 6

A new trailer for Street Fighter 6 was released shortly after the Street Fighter V grand finals. The trailer also announced the arrival of two new characters. The first is Kimberly, an African-American fighter who uses ninjutsu and spray cans to dazzle her opponents. She also uses a tape walkman to listen to music, which is incredibly vintage. As for the second fighter, it was announced that Juri would be joining the roster in Street Fighter 6. Juri brings her savage personality and impressive taekwondo skills to the game.

Those watching professional Street Fighter tournaments in recent years will be familiar with ‘Tasty’ Steve Scott and James Chen, who was announced as two English language options for the feature.

King of Fighters XV

A trio of SNK fighting game characters will join the fray in KOF XV as ‘Team Samurai’: Haohmaru, Nakoruru, and Darli Dagger. They’re all from a different series, of course: Samurai Shodown. King of Fighters: Team Samurai is due to be released this fall (Northern Hemisphere). This will be the first time these characters will appear in a mainline game – and probably the first time they will travel in time.

SNK also revealed that the game would have cross-play features for its online multiplayer across all of its supported platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Epic Games Store, Steam, and Microsoft Store). The release of this upgrade is scheduled for 2023.

Fatal Fury

Earlier this week, developer SNK announced a new entry in its Fatal Fury / Garou fighting game series. The company revealed a very short teaser trailer at the EVO 2022, which featured Rock Howard, Billy Zane, and Kain R. Heinlein.

Tekken 8

As part of their announcement of Tekken 8, Bandai Namco released a trailer that teased Tekken 8 along with announcing a brand new content update coming on 17 August 2022. The content update will feature character balance adjustments and ‘new tactics.’

Dragon Ball FighterZ

As part of its Evo 2022 announcement, Bandai Namco announced that Dragon Ball FighterZ would be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will also support rollback netcode.

As of now, the game is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. While no release date has been announced, the company did say the next-generation upgrades will be available to owners of PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

MultiVersus Season 1

MultiVersus, a recently released multiverse platform fighting game from Warner Bros., presented additional features that will be introduced during the game’s first season of free-to-play content. Both of the previously revealed Rick and Morty characters will be added to the game separately, with Rick becoming playable at the beginning of the season and Morty following at a later date.
