Ken Bruce has stated that he is quitting BBC Radio 2 and joining a competing station on the air.

After 31 years of doing his 9.30 am to noon program on BBC Radio 2, Ken Bruce announced his resignation. Having “made many friends and worked with many fantastic colleagues,” the celebrity indicated it was the perfect time to move on. He will present a program on Greatest Hits Radio from 10 am to 1 pm on the Bauer radio station, alongside presenters including Simon Mayo at Drivetime and Jackie Brambles in the early evening.

A farewell program will be broadcast on March 3 by the 71-year-old Scottish broadcast veteran. It will take place from 9 a.m. until noon. On his Twitter page, he wrote, “I will be presenting my last show on Radio 2 next Friday. I had intended fulfilling my contract until the end of March but the BBC has decided it wants me to leave earlier. Let’s enjoy the week ahead!”

For the last 31 years, Ken Bruce has hosted Radio 2. His contract was about to expire, but BBC had other plans for him. He is urged to depart before the end of March rather than till then. The Saturday Late Show was Ken’s first regular Radio 2 gig when he started working for the BBC in 1977 as a broadcaster for BBC Radio Scotland. The next year, he replaced Terry Wogan as host of the Radio 2 Morning Show.

After leaving BBC Radio 2, what ambitions does Ken Bruce have?

Since his contract with BBC Radio 2 expired in March, Ken Bruce will join the competing radio station Greatest Hits Radio in April. Together with Simon Mayo at Drivetime and Jackie Brambles in the early evening, he will host a program on the Bauer radio station from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“What better way to celebrate my 45 years in radio than with a new adventure and a brand-new show on Greatest Hits Radio. I say brand-new but there will still be PopMaster, me and my musings and all the great records you know and love from the 70s, 80s and 90s. I’m looking forward to getting started and to you joining me for my very first show. See you in April!” Ken said.
