Zion Williamson Injury Update: Injuries have marred the dominant comeback season of Zion Williamson, and his extended time out has prompted fans to ask if the New Orleans Pelicans star is fit again.

The Pelicans star was forced to sit out multiple games early in the season because of a nagging foot injury. He was then sidelined for a three-game stretch in December after being placed in health and safety protocols. Now, the 22-year-old is out with a hamstring injury. Here’s everything we know about Zion Williamson’s setback and the latest news on when he may return to the court.

Late in the third quarter of the Pelicans’ Jan. 2 game against the 76ers, Williamson left the court with a right hamstring strain. The team later announced that he would not return. Williamson – who missed the entirety of the last season through injury – finished with 26 points (10-of-12 shooting from the field), seven assists and six rebounds in 28 minutes.

The Pelicans (33-36) have seen wins hard to come by in the absence of forward Zion Williamson, who last played a game on Jan. 2. The injury was initially expected to be a niggling hamstring problem but has instead proved to be pivotal to the way the Pelicans’ season has gone. The Pelicans are 10-22 since he got injured in the loss against the Philadelphia 76ers.

On March 8, the Pelicans provided an update on Williamson’s injury, saying that his “hamstring continues to heal.” They also noted that his next examination will take place in approximately two weeks. New Orleans shared the update shortly after ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Williamson is “not close” to a return. Williamson had previously suffered a setback in his recovery process, which Windhorst described as “significant.”

Through 29 games, Williamson is averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 60.8 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from the 3-point line. The Pelicans will hope to have him back in their ranks as soon as possible.
