There are not many MMA stars made quite like Yoel ‘Soldier of God’ Romero. The 43-year-old might be one of the most dangerous men on the planet and his demeanour is more than enough to suggest that.
Romero represented Cuba in the FILA World Wrestling Championships after training in the sport from 1990.
He won multiple titles thanks to his wrestling skills, including a gold medal at the World Championships, and a silver medal in the 2000 Olympics.
However, Romero defected to Germany, despite representing Cuba for several years. He made his MMA debut in 2009 and that was the start of his MMA journey.
There isn’t much known about his family but he has a wife and two daughters while he also has a son in Cuba.

Damages worth $27m were reported to have been discussed, but there is no confirmation of whether Romero got the amount.
As for his pay outs, the details of his UFC bouts are mostly available. He made $70,000 on his UFC debut thanks to a Knockout of the Night award.
One of his biggest pay outs was against Chris Weidman as he made $215,000 for the win. However, that pales in comparison to his next fight as he earned $430,000 in a loss to Robert Whittaker for the UFC title.
Even in a loss to Israel Adesanya, Romero made $380,000, and that was his last fight in the UFC.

Yoel Romero currently has an MMA record of 13 wins and five losses. While the Soldier of God has a great history of competing in wrestling and winning titles, he never won a UFC belt during his time with the promotion.
Romero made his MMA debut in 2009 for Fight of the Night and won that battle. He then went on a three-fight win streak before losing to Rafael Cavalcante in 2011.
The next fight for him was his UFC debut where he defeated Clifford Starks in 2013. He went on another winning streak and faced Robert Whittaker for the Middleweight title but lost that.
He won another fight against Luke Rockhold but lost his next three bouts but all of those were against top contenders.
