WWE Raw results, winners, grades and reaction 6 April 2020: A Big test for the new Raw champion

published

WWE Raw results, winners, grades and reaction: The first Raw after any WrestleMania is a celebration by and for the fans.

However, this Raw was different as WWE continued to hold shows without any audience members due to the coronavirus pandemic.

WrestleMania 36 was a huge hit, despite the lack of fans, and Raw had a lot of action going on this week.

Asuka back at her best

Kairi Sane and Asuka lost the WWE Women’s tag team titles and the Empress of Tomorrow was up against Liv Morgan.

Morgan won her WrestleMania 36 kickoff match but she was unable to get the better of the Japanese star.

Asuka got Morgan to tap out to the Asuka lock as she rebounded with a win.

Asuka beats Morgan

Grade B

It was good to see Morgan get more wrestling time and she did a decent enough job against Asuka. Hopefully, the Japanese star can be dominant again in singles competition too.

Street Profits in action again

Angel Garza and Austin Theory took the Raw tag champions, Street Profits, to the limit at WrestleMania, and they got another shot at them.

Zelina Vega, however, interfered in the match too many times and the referee called for the bell as the Profits were handed a win.

Then, Bianca Belair came out to challenge Vega to a fight. That took off but a brawl broke out with the male members and the referee called it a no-contest.

The six weren’t done yet as a six-person tag match was announced after that and Belair finally picked up a win on her debut by beating Vega.

Belair vs Vega ends in no contest

Belair & Street Profits beat Vega, Theory and Garza

Grade C

There was no point in stretching this six-person match by having two matches at the start. Belair did her bit at WrestleMania and should have just gotten her fight against Vega this week.

WWE has to put up fillers due to the current situation, but they certainly did not need to stretch this storyline in this manner.

Black in action

Raw somehow had some draft picks left over and brought Apollo Crews from SmackDown. He went up against Aleister Black, who was fresh off a WM win over Bobby Lashley.

The match went back and forth as both stars actually had a go at each other. Crews had an answer for everything that Black threw, and only a Black Mass from nowhere got the Dutch Destroyer the win.

Black beats Crews

Grade C

It was great to see Crews perform well after spending time in the doldrums on SmackDown. However, this match was way too long and again showed that WWE is having trouble filling up its time slot.

Ricochet and Alexander team up

The tag team pairing of Ricochet and Cedric Alexander got a real test as they faced Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch.

Burch and Lorcan have a wealth of experience as a pair during their times on NXT and NXT UK.

However, it was Ricochet and Alexander that impressed and got the win over their experienced rivals.

Grade C

Another match that doesn’t progress the story much. Ricochet and Alexander have all of a sudden become tag team partners but will they challenge the Street Profits?

Monday Night Messiah in action

Seth Rollins lost his matches at WrestleMania and he came out to face NXT’s Denzel Dejournette.

As expected, Rollins dominated the NXT star and hit the stomp for an emphatic win.

Rollins beats Dejournette

Grade B

Rollins was seething with rage after his loss to Kevin Owens, and it made sense he took out what came in front of him.

Nia Jax is back

The Raw women’s roster welcomed back Nia Jax after a long time out with injury. The Irresistible Force was up against Deonna Purrazzo, and the NXT star was easily defeated.

Jax looked impressive in the ring and also introduced a DDT move that got her the win.

Jax beats Purrazzo

Grade C

The grade was a tad higher since this was a great return for a top star. However, Purrazzo deserves better than to be jobbing to stars but Jax looks ready to possibly face Becky Lynch.

Humberto Carrillo vs Brendan Vink

Humberto Carrillo has been missing for a while and the high-flyer returned to take on Brendan Vink.

Carrillo impressed in the ring as he got the better of Vink thanks a great moonsault.

Carrillo beats Vink

Grade C

Again, this felt like a filler but at least we got to see the return of Carrillo, who was missing.

He should have continued his feud with Vega and the rest, but it seems WWE forgot all about that.

McIntyre gets taken out

New WWE champion Drew McIntyre was speaking after his hard-fought win over Brock Lesnar and was forced into a title defence by the Big Show.

This wasn’t on Raw but right after WrestleMania 36. Show hit the new champion with a chokeslam but McIntyre survived and hit a claymore to keep hold of the crown.

McIntyre beats Show

Grade D

I don’t even know what to make of this segment. How could Big Show get a chance at the title right after WrestleMania?

Why would McIntyre accept and what was the point of it all? Yes, it showed McIntyre is a fighting champion and will not back down, but surely, he could have cut a promo or WWE could have just replayed his match against Lesnar.
