WWE are continuing with Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns feud despite the fact that Edge could challenge Reigns at WrestleMania 37

Last week’s Friday Night SmackDown left a lot of WWE fans very frustrated. Royal Rumble 2021 winner Edge was in the building.

The entire episode saw Roman Reigns nervous as to why The Rated R Superstar was taking so long to make his decision.

And at the end, it looked like a decision was close. Reigns wanted Edge to pick him as his opponent at WrestleMania 37, and even agreed to part ways with Jey Uso for the fight.

But just as talks seemed to be heading somewhere, Kevin Owens popped out of nowhere and floor ‘The Tribal Chief’. Now, many fans thought this feud was over.

But speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), Dave Meltzer clarified why the promotion is persisting with their feud despite a potential title fight for Reigns with Edge.

According to him, it’s simply because the Blue brand is seriously devoid of any talent right now.

“They idea is that they’re trying to elevate someone — they gotta! They have Big E, but Big E is in the IC Title thing and I don’t think he’ll be wrestling Reigns any time soon. Yeah, it’s been bad ever since Reigns came back. They didn’t really even push Owens, they just threw Owens in that spot because they had nobody else and then they kept him in that spot because they got nobody else. They got nobody else unless they pull the trigger on Edge.”

Roman Reigns vs Edge remains a possibility at WrestleMania 37

Like Meltzer says, SmackDown lacks someone that can take up Owens’ place as Reigns’ next challenger. As for KO, he has himself been in this feud for far too long.

Almost everyone thought that their feud was over at Royal Rumble because it seemed like he was never destined to take the Universal championship off ‘The Big Dog’.

But as it turns out, he is still quite involved with Reigns, and it may go on until Edge (possibly) chooses Reigns as his WrestleMania opponent.

Apart from Reigns, WWE champion Drew McIntyre is also one possible opponent for Edge. But, it is more likely that the Rumble winner targets the Universal champion.
