Why Ciro Immobile to Everton would bolster their attack

According to 90min (h/t The Sun), Everton are focused on signing Lazio star Ciro Immobile in the on-going transfer window.

A product of Juventus youth academy, Immobile, 30, played for several clubs including Genoa, Pescara, Borussia Dortmund, Torino and Sevilla before joining Lazio in the summer of 2016. Since then, he has been one of the key players for Lazio, scoring goal week in and week out.

The Italian has been in sensational form in the last few years and despite being 30, he doesn’t seem to slow down. He also returned to the national team after a long absence and was instrumental in keeping his club in the race for the Serie A title until Juventus won it last week. Thus, Everton should manage to make a move for the former Sevilla man.

The Toffees, meanwhile, couldn’t finish their season on a high note as they suffered a 3-1 loss to Bournemouth on the final day of the league campaign. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been inconsistent due to the lack of quality and numbers in the squad. They finished 12th in the league standings. This could be a positive as they were hovering near the relegation zone when the Italian tactician took over.

With the season done and dusted, Ancelotti should focus on taking his side to the Europa League next season. And for that to happen, the manager needs to bring in reinforcements.

Immobile could be a leader in Everton’s attack

At the moment, Everton have five centre-forwards in their ranks. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison were brilliant, scoring 26 goals between them out of the total 44 goals the Toffees scored. However, apart from them, there was not enough support.

Young Moise Kean has struggled to settle in the Premier League while Cenk Tosun fell out of favour. Sandro Ramirez’s future with the club remains uncertain. Moreover, Richarlison is naturally a left-winger, and bringing in a striker would help him move to his natural position. Hence, Everton would be wise to bring in an in-form centre-forward.

In that regard, signing Immobile would definitely bring a powerful change in their attack. The Italian has been in sensational form, scoring 35 goals in 36 league games so far and 38 in all competitions. He is leading the race for Serie A’s golden boot. He is also well placed in the hunt for the European Golden Boot award.

The 30-year-old has been reliable and consistent in the last few years and his inclusion to Ancelotti’s squad would do them a world of good. He could form a strong partnership with Calvert-Lewin up front if needed.

Verdict

At 30, the former Sevilla and Dortmund man is one of the most in-form strikers and would definitely bring in a wealth of experience to Everton. Given his recent form, he could go on to lead their attack and can be expected to help increase the Toffees’ goal tally next season. Thus, they should lure Immobile and keep him at Goodison Park for a few years.
