Why Alexander Sorloth to Tottenham would bolster their attack

According to The Express, Tottenham have entered the race to sign 24-year-old Crystal Palace forward Alexander Sorloth, who currently plies his trade with Trabzonspor in Turkey.

The report suggests that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is in desperate need of striker and Sorloth has come under the radars of the North London club after an excellent campaign in Turkey. However, the Lilywhites could face competition to secure his services as RB Leipzig are also interested in signing him.

Born in Norway, Sorloth came through the ranks of Rosenborg’s youth system and made 10 appearances for the Norwegian outfit before moving to Groningen and Midtjylland. His impressive performances with the former club earned him a move to Crystal Palace in January 2018.

However, he endured at a torrid time at Selhurst Park in his debut season and was sent on loan to Genk. Last season, he was once again sent on a two-year loan spell to Trabzonspor, where he has been successful. He managed to score 33 goals in 49 games across all competitions and helped his side lift the Turkish Cup title.

The Norwegian also won the Turkish Golden Boot award as he scored 24 league goals. He was also impressive in the recent outing for his country.

Sorloth could be a perfect backup to Harry Kane

After letting Vincent Jansen and Fernando Llorente leave last summer, the Lilywhites failed to bring in a striker. Kane was the lone striker throughout the campaign and his absence for a few months cost Tottenham a lot. Mourinho tried with Lucas Moura and Heung Min-Son to lead the attack but both of them seem to be comfortable on the flanks.

Young Troy Parrott has also left on a loan spell, leaving Spurs without a proper backup for Kane. And their difficulty in scoring continued as there was no one to support the Englishman from the bench last weekend against Everton.

In that regard, Sorloth would be a fantastic signing for the club. After struggling with the Eagles, he seems to have revived his career and is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. He was in sensational form last season and could be a crucial player for Tottenham if he is able to continue with the fine form.

His inclusion would add depth to the Lilywhites’ attacking unit, whilst also bringing in healthy competition to the squad. The Norwegian is also capable of playing anywhere across the frontline and his versatility could come in handy for the manager.

With limited attacking options, it is clear that Tottenham need to add depth to the squad. And Sorloth could also provide them with some much-needed extra goals. Thus, signing him at the earliest would be a wise decision by the club
