Why a new Manchester City contract for Raheem Sterling is a no-brainer

According to Mirror, Manchester City are all set to offer Raheem Sterling a new contract with longer terms and improvement in wages. This comes in line after City’s renewal of Pep Guardiola’s contract. The club are also believed to be in talks with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne to extend his stay.

Sterling, 25, came through the youth ranks of QPR and Liverpool, and joined Manchester City in 2015. Since then, he has made 256 appearances for the club. In the process, he has scored 105 times and provided 79 assists.

He is a key member under Pep Guardiola and especially in the absence of Leroy Sane last term, the English international featured regularly. A full international for England, he has more than 50 appearances for the national side, with 13 goals to his name.

Why a new contract is a no-brainer

Raheem Sterling has come a long way from the scrawny winger he once was at Liverpool. He has gone from a trouble-making player to one of the league’s most lethal wingers. Under Pep Guardiola, he has taken his game to new heights and is easily one of the best goalscoring wingers in the world.

Over the last few seasons, Sterling has kept producing fine numbers for City. He has also played multiple roles for them to help the team out in various circumstances. With the experience of playing across the entire forward line, he has developed into a very multifaceted forward.

City have reaped the rewards from his contributions as they have bagged multiple trophies over the last few seasons. He has combined well with every forward that has been at the club and has adjusted to that as well. The forward has been at the top of his game all these years without dropping a beat and that needs to be commended especially when you consider he is still just 25.

It almost feels like Raheem Sterling has been around forever given how long he has been at the top level. Manchester City made a huge investment on him and safe to say he has repaid them tenfold. The club are making the right decision in rewarding Sterling with the new contract as he thoroughly deserves it. He has been a constant under Guardiola and has kept improving on his performances.
