Why Manchester City should replace Sergio Aguero with Lautaro Martinez
According to 90 min (h/t ESPN), Manchester City have identified Lautaro Martinez as a player to replace Sergio Aguero. The veteran City striker has suffered repeated injuries that has left the club requiring Raheem Sterling to play as a striker. Yes, Gabriel Jesus is there but the club are keen to add some more personnel in the attack.
Born in Argentina, Martinez started his journey with Bahia Blanca before rising through the ranks of Racing Club’s youth system. He made his senior bow in the 2016/17 season and racked up 27 goals in 59 appearances for the Argentine outfit before joining Inter Milan in the summer of 2018.
Though he didn’t enjoy a lot of success in his first season in Italy, Martinez went on to score 21 goals last time out, helping his side reach the finals of the Europa League.
Inter also finished just one point behind Juventus in Serie A as they benefited from the strike partnership of Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. The 23-year-old Martinez is a part of the Argentine senior team with 19 games and 10 goals to his name.
Martinez would be the ideal replacement for Aguero
It is probably hard to describe what Aguero is to City given his impact since signing for the club. From scoring the most important goal in the club’s history which won them their first ever Premier League to becoming record scorer for the club, he is an absolute legend at the Etihad.
However, as time is passing, Aguero’s age is slowly catching up to him and it is visible in the injury layoffs he has been having. He has missed 48 games in the last 4 seasons. Clearly, another experienced striker is a huge requirement at this stage.
Martinez can be the perfect replacement for Aguero given how good he has been in the last few seasons. The forward is a huge hit at the Giuseppe Meazza as Romelu Lukaku and he has ripped apart Serie A defences at will.

- Why Manchester City signing Patson Daka would be a worthy move
His age will also appeal to City given he can easily pull through for a good decade or so. The last time City signed an Argentine striker, it worked wonders for them. The club will be hoping that Martinez’s signing can also produce a similar effect.
