There was a major surprise in the time-sheets on the fourth day of the 2020 pre-season F1 test

The times started to tumble on the fourth day of the 2020 F1 pre-season test with one new name at the top.

Most of the teams allocated two racers to test their car with 19 drivers posting times in Barcelona.

Several even brought out aero upgrades, and the Ferraris tried their best to post quality times.

Pirelli also brought out an upgrade or a test tyre. A special C2 compound was tested as this would be used for the special Dutch Grand Prix.

Romain Grosjean was the only racer that took both sessions and ended up with 107 laps, the most, under his belt.

However, the man topping the sheet was Robert Kubica with his Alfa Romeo. The Polish star is a reserve driver for the team and clocked a time of 1:16.942, which was four-tenths quicker than Max Verstappen.

There were some problems for a few teams too, which isn’t good given that there are just two more days of testing left.

Trouble for several racers

Alex Albon was one of the racers with problems as he only clocked in 29 laps, but he still finished in sixth place.

Sebastian Vettel spun his Ferrari around while Lewis Hamilton also missed a turn and had to go over the bumps.

Nicholas Latifi, in the Williams, had to shut down his car due to a problem while AlphaTauri also faced problems in the fourth day of testing.

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton could only finish seventh as he completed 89 laps while Valtteri Bottas was ninth ahead of Vettel.

Charles Leclerc, driving in a Ferrari was was down in 13th place behind Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz.

It wasn’t a great day for McLaren as their other star, Lando Norris, ended the day in 17th place. Ricciardo’s teammate, Esteban Ocon was dead last in 19th.

Teams have a couple of days left to try out more packages and settings with the season to start in March.

Mercedes look great but it will be interesting to see how the final two days of testing goes.
