Jason Witt makes his UFC debut on Fight Night Poirier vs Hooker as a cornerman of Ramiz Brahimaj tested positive for Covid-19

The latest UFC Fight Night clash sees another short-notice fight with Jason Witt replacing Ramiz Brahimaj.

The UFC confirmed that Witt would be making his UFC debut on two days notice. One of the cornermen on Brahimaj tested positive for Covid-19 and he had to be replaced.

Witt didn’t take part in the UFC weigh ins for this fight, but the UFC confirmed the 33-year-old will undergo this later.

Witt has an MMA record of 17 wins and five losses. The American has also won nine of his last 10 fights.

The UFC statement read:

“Due to a positive COVID-19 test result from one of his cornermen, Ramiz Brahimaj has been removed from his bout against Takashi Sato.

“Replacing Brahimaj will be UFC newcomer Jason Witt, pending medical clearance including a COVID-19 test.”

Witt must be wary of Rohskopf

Witt’s opponent for this clash is Sato with the fight taking place in the prelim card. There are 10 fights set for this Fight Night event with the main clash between Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker.

While Witt should be commended for taking the fight on such short notice, he has to be a little careful of all that has happened recently.

Max Rohskopf also took a fight on short notice and it didn’t end well for him. The youngster wanted out of the clash but his cornerman/coach tried to keep him in. A state official had to call off the fight, and there was an uproar from some sections regarding the safety of the fighters.

Making a debut in the UFC is always going to be exciting for any fighter, and it will be interesting to see how Witt does in this clash against Sato.
