Charles Oliveira locked in a crazy armbar on Tony Ferguson at UFC 256 and El Cucuy’s arm somehow didn’t snap

One of the major talking points at UFC 256 was the arm of Tony Ferguson. El Cucuy fought Charles Oliveira in the co-main event and was beaten soundly.

However, the real shock was during the end of the first round where Oliveira had Ferguson locked in tight.

The Brazilian even applied an armbar and cranked wildly at it. He even pushed Ferguson’s arm below his waist and at one time, it seemed set to break into two.

Ferguson was grimacing in pain and this was a tough sight for many. However, the American didn’t tap, his arm didn’t snap and he continued to fight.

While Oliveira proved his title credentials with the dominating win. Ferguson proved he was one of the toughest stars in the UFC.

Many couldn’t believe that Ferguson’s arm wasn’t broken and El Cucuy provided an astonishing update on social media.

No breaks at all

Ferguson posted a few photos of his arm and claimed all was fine. He did apologise for his performance and added that he made a few mistakes which he shouldn’t have.

The former Lightweight interim champion also claimed that he wanted to get back to training right after a visit to the hospital and shared what thoughts were going through his head during the lock from Oliveira:

My Crew 🍃 No Excuses, I Felt Flat. I Went Out & Welcomed The Attack Instead Of Defend. The Warm Up Time In The Back for @UFC Hasn’t Been The Same Since Pre-COVID. Still No Excuses, Times Change & So Do People 🍃🌱🍃 The Time From Hotel To UFC Apex Is Much More Condensed & The Aggressive Level We Needed Was Not Reached. My Fault. 💯

After The Fight, We Were Checked By Doctors & Went Back To The Hotel. I Felt It Was In Order To Hit Pads/Spar Immediately Because The Fight Was Fresh In My Mind & Blood Circulation In My Arm Was Needed. I Really Needed To Figure Out What The F’n Problem Was From The Fight, Solution **Pre-Fight Time🥇Management**

Chuck Was Looking Take My Back or Go For The Armbar As Soon As We Hit The Mat. Thus I Didn’t Worry About The Mount, Kid Was Slick But So Am I. My Arm Is Aright, The Armbar Was Really Tight. The Thought Of My Son ArmandAnthony’s Ability To Be Double Jointed In His Elbow During That Sequence & My Mental Capacity To Endure Pain Got Me Through It. # Breathe # Mental🥇TUFness. One ☝️

I’m Beyond Grateful & Thankful For My Talents 🌱 I Have Learned So Much About Myself This Year & What My Purpose In Life Is. My Search For That Epic Word Called “greatness” Isn’t Over. Understand Crew 🍃 We Are Far From Being Retired, So Message To My Haters🖕🤓 👍 *ShaBam*

Shout Out To My Team I Put Together On Three Weeks Notice. We’re Still Green🥇Boys Thanks For Not Deserting💯Me. (Team, We’re Barely Scratching The Surface To What We Can Truly Accomplish & For That I Say Amen). It Was Great Making Weight & Being Around My Fight Fam For The Week. I Can’t Wait Til We Compete In Front Of A Big Loud Crowd Again, It’s Not The Same Without You All

Ferguson also cut down any talks of him being retired after a second straight big defeat. El Cucuy also wanted to fight in front of a crowd and not behind closed doors, due to the Covid-19 precautions.

Nevertheless, it is amazing that Ferguson didn’t break his arm or suffer any significant damage. It will be interesting to see if the American is back in action soon but one thing is certain, he isn’t human.
