Cody Garbrandt believed he had the UFC knockout of the year against Raphael Assuncao

Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt is backing himself to pick up a mid-year award.

The UFC posted a clipping of some of the best knockouts of the year and wanted to know which one was the best so far.

Francis Ngannou, Sean O’Malley, Herbert Burns, Jan Błachowicz and Garbrandt were the names that the UFC shared.

Garbrandt had one of the most impressive knockouts of the year and he took out Raphael Assuncao. The Brazilian was rocked so hard that he had trouble sitting on a chair after the clash.

The 28-year-old Garbrandt came into UFC 250 on a three-fight losing streak but changed that with one punch.

It was the final seconds of the second round and he ducked a punch before unleashing an incredible right. Garbrandt also timed his punch perfectly as the horn blew just after he made contact with the Brazilian.

Assuncao was out in a flash and the referee had to call off the fight as Garbrandt celebrated.

The 28-year-old picked himself as one of the knockouts of the year, and he used several emojis to show how much he liked it:

New Bantamweight champion to be crowned

While Garbrandt was thinking of getting another shot at the title, he isn’t in the mix. Henry Cejudo’s retirement meant that the Bantamweight title was vacated.

UFC 251 at Fight Island sees Petr Yan and Jose Aldo meet for the Bantamweight title. This is one of three title fights in Abu Dhabi, and it will be interesting to see what is next in the division.

Aljamain Sterling is another star that might get a shot at the title soon. Garbrandt certainly is in the mix and he might just have had the knockout of the year too.
