Battle of the Brits Day Three results: Andy Murray progresses

Andy Murray assured his spot in the singles semi-final of the Battle of the Brits with a hard-fought win in the group decider.

Murray defeated James Ward 6-3, 7-5 in the winner-takes-all gruelling contest in the Tim Henman Group on Day Three to progress into the semi-final.

Though Murray looked a little fatigued due to the continuous games in the past two days, it was encouraging to see his intensity of movement and was able to dictate the longer points.

“When I played the match in November in Davis Cup. I was feeling my hip, it was sore and struggled to move. I’m feeling it a little just now, but it didn’t affect my movement. It’s the best I’ve moved of the three matches, but I’m delighted to get a rest day tomorrow,” Murray said during an on-court interview.

The former British No.1 will next meet current British No.1 Dan Evans in the semi-final which will be held on Saturday.

Evans tops the Greg Rusedski Group

Meanwhile, Dan Evans topped the Greg Rusedski Group with an impressive 6-3, 6-3 win over Cameron Norrie. In the match between Britain’s current No.1 and No.3, Evans clearly looked the more comfortable of the two, as he booked himself a spot in the semi-finals.

In the doubles section, Jonny O’Mara and Joe Salisbury topped the Cathie Sabin Group winning a tight encounter against Kyle Edmund and James Ward.

O’Mara and Salisbury overcame their opponents 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 in the first match of Day Three to finish on top. Edmund and Ward, meanwhile, ended their doubles group campaign by finishing second.

Doubles favourites Jaimie Murray and Neal Skupski registered their first win in the Battle of the Brits with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over Dan Evans and Lloyd Glasspool.
