The second leg of the Adria Tour went haywire after Grigor Dimitrov tested positive for coronavirus

Nick Kyrgios ripped into the organisers of the Adria Tour after tennis players Grigor Dimitrov and Borna Coric tested positive for coronavirus.

The Instagram page of the Adria Tour posted a long update confirming that the final was cancelled. However, a few hours later they posted another update. They asked all those who were in close contact with the tennis players to self isolate for 14 days and call a doctor.

The event was taking place in Zadar and only Dimitrov had tested positive during that time. However, this raised several questions as many top stars were participating in the event.

Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic and Novak Djokovic were some of the other big names on show. The Adria Tour was the dream child of Djokovic and it seems Kyrgios was unhappy at all that had taken place.

Borna Coric, another tennis player at the Adria Tour, also tested positive for coronavirus. He posted an update on Twitter and Kyrgios called it a “bonehead” decision to play the exhibition tournament:

More tests needed

The Australian was unhappy with all that had taken place and tweeted:

“Dimitorov got Covid -19 are Thiem, Novak & Zverev also getting tested?”

Kyrgios kept ripping into the organisers of the Adria Tour especially after they decided to cancel the event after people had already reached the venue:

Cilic, who was also the event, got himself tested for Covid 19. The Croatian shared an update on social media and confirmed that he had tested negative for the virus and wasn’t feeling unwell either.

Tumaini Carayol posted a lengthy update on the situation. The Guardian journalist added that Dimitrov’s coach Kristijan Groh and Djokovic’s fitness coach Marko Paniki also tested positive for coronavirus.

However, a translated update from the Adria Tour officials, shared by Carayol, confirmed that Djokovic crossed borders without getting tested because he wasn’t feeling any symptoms.

There were some calling for the return of the proper tennis season to resume. However, the positive coronavirus results for many of the tennis stars will certainly lead to a rethink of all this.

Hopefully, no other positive results come out from the tour. This serves as a warning to those thinking of getting tennis back on track. Many sports have resumed their regular matches. However, they are under strict guidelines as sports bodies ensure the virus doesn’t spread due to them.
