Novak Djokovic is known as ‘Djoker’ for a reason – here’s a throwback which shows he deserves the nickname

Novak Djokovic is one of the biggest pranksters on and off the Tennis court and it is no secret. Ever since Djokovic put his foot on the professional circuit, he has come across as someone with a great sense of humour. Video footage of 20-year-old Djokovic has resurfaced on the internet, where the Serbian can be seen imitating top stars like Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick.

The video clip dates back to 2007 when Djokovic was giving an interview to ESPN Tennis. In the footage, the young Serbian can be seen hilariously imitating the on-court antics of established tennis stars like Nadal, Sharapova and Roddick. When asked to imitate Roger Federer, Djokovic claimed: “Roger is too perfect. You cannot imitate him.”

Novak Djokovic is now the joint-most Grand Slam Champion of all-time

Djokovic won a record tenth Australian Open title in Melbourne last month. With this win, the Serbian has now equalled Rafael Nadal as the joint-most Grand Slam Champion in the history of Tennis – 22. Djokovic has now bagged 66 ‘Big Titles’ which include Grand Slam titles, ATP finals, ATP Masters 1000 tournaments and Olympic singles gold medals. The ATP World No.1 is now seven ‘Big Titles’ clear of his biggest rivals – Nadal (59) and Federer (54).

Djokovic is now back at the top of the ATP men’s singles rankings thanks to this historic triumph. He has become the third-oldest man in the Open Era to triumph at the Australian Open, trailing only Ken Rosewall and Federer, who both accomplished the feat aged 36. With his victory against Tsitsipas in the championship clash, the Serbian has also won 17 consecutive matches against Top 5 opponents at the tournament.
