The Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence’s fairy tale came to a disappointing conclusion as they were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round by a score of 27-20. Although Lawrence and the rest of the team gave it their all, the AFC West winners were simply too good for them.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ victory in the AFC South and their advancement to the AFC divisional round were perhaps two of the most shocking occurrences to occur over the course of the NFL season.

Both Doug Pederson, the head coach, and Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback, believe that shouldn’t be the case moving forward. They believe that going forward, the franchise should have as their baseline objectives winning division titles, fighting for spots in conference championship games, and playing in the Super Bowl.

After the game, Lawrence said, “We worked so hard to get here and nobody thought we were going to be here and we had our shot and that’s what hurts, We’ll be back. I’m confident in that. This is more the beginning than it is the end of something.” He added, “This is just getting started for us. We got a taste of it and guys are already hungry to get this opportunity again.”

After suffering a defeat at the hands of the Chiefs on November 13 at Kansas City, which brought their record to 3-7, it appeared as though the Jaguars might be heading for their 11th consecutive season with double-digit losses in the prior 12 years. Instead, the club went on a winning streak of six games in a row and earned just the second AFC South championship in team history by winning the game in Jacksonville by a score of 20-16, which allowed them to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

The turnaround that Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars accomplished was quite incredible, and you should expect to see them in the playoffs for many seasons to come. Everyone in Jacksonville is aware of how promising the future is going to be here.

Doug Pederson excited about the future with Trevor Lawrence and Jaguars

The atmosphere of the Jaguars’ football team has undergone a complete transformation since Doug Pederson took over as head coach at the beginning of this season. His plans for the future with Lawrence and the fraternity are quite exciting to him.

Pederson said,  “I’ve said this before that the success of your football team lies with your quarterback and you’ve got to get that piece and that player right and I feel that Jacksonville got that person right. And he’s just going to get better.”

He added, “We’re all hurting because of the loss, but we’re all hurting too because this is the final game of this year and that’s the hard thing, But, like I told the guys, these are the games we’re going to learn from and we’re going to be better because of. I told them, ‘Just plan on every year of us being in these meaningful games at the end of the season.’ We want to be one of the four, five, six teams in the AFC every year.”

At the end of his second season, Lawrence ended with 4,113 yards of total offense, 25 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. His completion percentage was 66.3%, and his passer rating of 95.2 was good enough for 10th place in the NFL. In the first season under Pederson’s direction, the Jaguars’ offense finished the season ranked 10th in yards per game and 11th in scoring.

Pederson and Lawrence anticipate that the offense will be even more successful in their second season working together, especially now that they have the wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who they acquired through trade in November.
