LBJ had a tough childhood growing up. In time, LeBron worked very hard to achieve his greatness. Let us know about his childhood and the place where he grew up.

Where is the birthplace of LA Lakers superstar LeBron James?

37-year-old LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984, to mother Gloria Marie James and father Anthony McClelland.

Notably, LeBron was born in Akron, Ohio, United States. So, Akron, Ohio is the birthplace of LeBron James.

Sadly, like most African Americans, LeBron’s family was not perfect. LeBron’s mother gave birth to LBJ when she was just sixteen years old.

On the other hand, LeBron’s father, Anthony McClelland, has an extensive criminal record and was not involved in his life.

James had a difficult time growing up and his family often struggled to make ends meet. LBJ’s mother, Gloria, struggled to find work and she moved from apartment to apartment in the seedier neighborhoods of Akron with little James.

Later, Gloria allowed LeBron to move in with the family of Frank Walker, a local youth football coach.

She allowed James to move in with Frank because she ultimately understood that it will only help LBJ’s future and well-being.

Notably, Frank introduced LBJ to basketball when he was nine years old.

Soon, under the able guidance of Frank Walker, LeBron became a solid athlete. He began playing organized basketball in the fifth grade. He then played Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars.

Next, LeBron made a move that will later set him for life. After playing in the AAU for some time and enjoying quite the success at all levels, LBJ started to attend St. Vincent–St. Mary High School.

LeBron’s high school heroics in basketball quickly grabbed the attention of the country and he soon became the brightest prospect of the NBA.

Further, LBJ did not choose to attend college and opted to directly enter the NBA. After his high school graduation, LeBron entered the NBA Draft.

Then, in the 2003 NBA Draft, LeBron James was selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. And the rest is history.
