Shaquille O’Neal has accumulated a stellar net worth of $400 million even after hanging his boots in 2011. Having invested heavily in some of leading business ventures in and around the world, the Los Angeles Lakers legend and Hall of Famer has a great business acumen. But it all went downhill ever since he invested in Viceroy LLC cannabis company.
Shaquille O’Neal and his business partner Jerome Crawford invested $150,000 cannabis company. Out of which, the 50-year-old put-in a total of $100,000, $50,000 more than his partner in 2017. This is just why he could not control his anger after a failed business deal. In 2021, Shaq and Jerome sued the company for more than a million dollars.
According to the suit, the plaintiffs were under the impression that around December 2015, Daron Campbell (founder). What’s worse? The same company had no business operation, no licence and no revenue. Currently, Shaq and his business partner are suing to get back the remaining $130,000.
Shaq sues cannabis company
Shaq’s email reportedly said, “At this point, I am willing to agree to personally purchase the units [owned by plaintiffs] over a period of time. If acceptable, I would pay Mr. Crawford and Mr. O’Neal on the first day of each quarter, a minimum of $10,000 until paid in full.”
Campbell failed to provide the necessary receipts, Shaq and his business partner threatened to file a lawsuit against the former founder. That is just when Viceroy’s head agreed to pay back their sum of $150,000 in easy and regular instalments.
He made his first payment in November 2018, but that was all that came in the direction of Shaq. That was the extent of their communications, as from that point onwards Campbell has avoided further contact with the NBA Hall of Famer. Hence, Shaq decided to sue him for over $1 million dollars.
“Plaintiffs can not establish that any money was paid from plaintiffs to defendants. Plaintiffs also state that the alleged contract was to invest in a federally illegal product,” said Campbell per Law360.
