As per sources, the Cincinnati Reds are planning to promote infield prospect Matt McLain to the major league roster. It is anticipated that McLain will make his Major League Baseball debut on Monday when the Reds begin a series against the Colorado Rockies. The Reds Cincinnati will be required to complete more than one transaction in order to make room for him on the active roster as McLain is not currently on the 40-man roster

McLain was a highly acclaimed athlete during his time as a college student at UCLA, and he has made a rapid ascent through Cincinnati’s farm system since being selected 17th overall in the 2021 draught. In the first round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft, Matt McLain was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks to play for their team. His selection came with the 25th pick in the draft overall.

McLain is a gifted infielder who was raised in Southern California. His home region is Southern California. He went to high school in Irvine, California, at Beckman High School, where he excelled in baseball and was recognized as a star player on the team. During his senior year at Beckman High School, he had a batting average of.390, 10 home runs, and 50 runs batted in. In 2018, he was honored as the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of California.

After completing his high school education, McLain made the decision to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He spent two years playing for the Bruins, during which time he was recognized as an All-Pac-12 player.

He had a batting average of.284 as a freshman, with 7 home runs and 36 RBIs to his credit. He finished his sophomore year with a batting average of.333, 7 home runs, and 36 RBIs. A semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the best amateur baseball player in the United States, was also selected for him. This award is presented annually.
