According to reports, the Boston Red Sox and outfielder Adam Duvall reached an agreement as the former Atlanta Braves player signed a new deal in January of 2023. The Red Sox gave Duvall a one-year contract worth $7 million in the hopes that he would help make up for some of the offensive production that was lost due to the offseason departures of Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez, as well as the possibility that Trevor Story will miss the entirety of the 2023 season due to injury.
The 34-year-old Duvall, who has played in Major League Baseball for the past nine years, will make his debut in the American League this season. After making his debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2014, Duvall played parts of the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, where he matured into one of the sport’s more effective power hitters.
After he hit.241 with 33 home runs and 103 RBI in 2016, he was selected for the All-Star Game for the first and only time in his career. The next year, he followed that up with a batting average of.249, 31 home runs, and 99 RBI in the season after that.

During the course of the 2018 season, the Atlanta Braves acquired Duvall through trade. He played quite well for them and even won a World Series in Atlanta. This was a great acquisition for Red Sox, and Duvall is playing the best baseball of his life this season.
Adam Duvall is dominating with the Boston Red Sox
When the Boston Red Sox signed free agent outfielder Adam Duvall this past winter, the hope was that the Red Sox could mold him into the next player to rely on after suffering the loss of a number of star players over the course of the past few years, including players of the caliber of Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts.
As a result of the impressive start he had in Boston, early returns on Duvall indicate that he has the potential to become this year’s equivalent of Renfroe. In the first series of the season against the Orioles, Duvall had a batting average of 8-14. He has a batting average of.571 and an on-base percentage of.600 through the first three games. In addition, throughout the course of the weekend, he blasted two home runs, one of which was the walk-off hit on Saturday, and he has three doubles.
In 7 games thus far this season, Adam Duvall has a batting average of.483, with 14 hits, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. In comparison, his career statistics include a batting average of.233, 651 hits, 167 home runs, 492 RBIs, and 393 runs scored. He also had 651 walks.
After having a less-than-stellar season for the Braves in 2017, during which he hit just 12 home runs in 86 games, the Red Sox decided to take a chance on Duvall and sign him to a one-year deal this summer. The expectation was that they would be able to restore him to the form he showed in 2021, which saw him hit 38 home runs and drive in 113 runs.
To this point, it would appear like Duvall has located the ideal environment for him, and if he keeps playing the way he has been up to this point, he is sure to receive a lot of support from the fans in Boston.
