Jose Aldo might be on a bit of a slide at the moment but the Brazilian is one of the greatest to have ever taken up the MMA gloves.

Aldo will go down as the inaugural UFC Featherweight champion and has held the belt twice. He might be remembered for the 13-second loss to Conor McGregor but there is a lot that Aldo has done for the sport.

The Brazilian was born into poverty and even an early scary accident didn’t stop him from becoming the best at a time.

Aldo has spoken about the car he had on his face, however, the Brazilian also won the title for WEC before coming to the UFC.

Aldo is a keen football fan and wanted to play the sport, but was often beat up. He grew tired and started training in capoeira to learn how to defend himself.

That love grew further as he gained the attention of a jiu-jitsu trainer and he started learning that too.

Jose Aldo Net worth and salary

Jose Aldo is one of the biggest names in the UFC and has an estimated net worth of $9m in 2021.

As with every fighter, Aldo is paid per fight and doesn’t earn a monthly salary. Aldo’s earlier pay outs aren’t available but those from his WEC and UFC fights make up for some incredible numbers.

His debut fight in WEC against Alexandre Franca Nogueira saw him earn $6,000. However, more was to come for the Brazilian.

Aldo made $36,000 when he won the Featherweight title and then his UFC numbers started to kick in.

On his UFC debut, Aldo got a pay out of $177,000 for the win over Mark Hominick.

His next big pay out was against Frankie Edgar where he got $290,000 for the win. The win over Chad Mendes also got him $350,000 and the loss to Conor McGregor earned him a pay out of $440,000.

The rematch against Edgar, where Aldo won the interim title, netted him $515,000. His fight, against Petr Yan, saw him earn $430,000 despite losing out in the Bantamweight title bout.

Jose Aldo MMA record

Jose Aldo is one of the most experienced fighters in the UFC and has a record of 29 wins and seven losses.

The Brazilian started his career in 2004 and was 7-0 before losing to Luciano Azevedo in 2005. Aldo then made a name for himself after appearing on WEC and winning the Featherweight title by defeating Mike Brown.

He was undefeated in WEC before moving to the UFC and becoming their inaugural Featherweight champion.

His first loss as the champion was against Conor McGregor in the infamous UFC 194 bout. That took his record to 25-2 but things haven’t been great for Aldo since.

The Brazilian lost five of his last nine fights and was on a three-fight losing streak.

He snapped his three-fight skid following a victory over Marlon Vera in December 2020, and followed it up with a unanimous decision win over Pedro Munhoz in the co-main event of UFC 265.
