JBL Career 

John Carles Layfield who is better known by the ring name of John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) made his debut in September 1992 in the GWF in Texas. In January 1995, Layfield joined NWA Dallas. He won the NWA North American Heavyweight Championship on January 14, 1995, defeating Kevin Von Erich. He has also wrestled in several other overseas promotions such as NOW, CWA, CMLL, etc.

Layfield made his WWF debut in December 1995 and his televised debut came on the January 27, 1996 episode of WWF Superstars as “Justin ‘Hawk’ Bradshaw”, defeating Bob Holly in his debut match.

Bradshaw made his name in the WWE during the Attitude Era. He and Ron Simmons (also known as Farooq) formed a faction known as the Acolytes Protection Agency (APA) and won the tag team titles three times. 

In 2004, the APA separated and Layfield was rebranded as JBL, a rough-mannered, brawling, blustering, bad-tempered and bigmouthed Texas elite businessman, driven into the arena by limousine. The gimmick was built off of Layfield’s real-life accomplishments as a stock market investor. 

Later that year, he captured the WWE Championship and held it for 280 days. A month before his in-ring retirement at 2009’s WrestleMania 25, he became Intercontinental Champion, which made him the 20th Triple Crown Champion and the 10th Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.

After his retirement, Layfield became an on-air commentator for WWE SmackDown and was inducted into the 2021 WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2020.

JBL was born on November 29, 1966, and was raised in Sweetwater, Texas U.S to parents. Lavelle Layfield, who is a minister and Mary Layfield. There is not much information regarding his siblings. 

Layfield was first married to Cindy Womack on June 6, 1994, but they got divorced in 2003. He married for the second time with Meredith Whitney on February 11, 2005, in Key West, Florida.
