The Italian tennis pro. Fabio Fognini teamed with Simone Bolelli to take part in the doubles event. Their run was brought to a halt by the team of Karen Khachanov and Andre Rublev. Now Fognini has the chance to avenge his loss as he takes on Khachanov in the singles event.

Fognini has reached the semi-final stage of the Rio Open and the Serbia Open this year. The 35-year-old also has some commendable performances in the doubles arena. However, he will have his task cut out when he takes on the world No. 26 Karen Khachanov in the round of 16. Fognini had to fight hard to defeat Aljaz Bedene in the Round of 32 match in a third-set tiebreak. By virtue of this win, the experienced campaigner became the first Italian male to record 400 singles win in the Open Era.

Karen Khachanov

The Russian has had a topsy turvy season thus far. He has blown hot and cold and that was evident once again in his Round of 32 match against Jan-Lennard Struff. The German veteran outplayed Khachanov to win the first set but the latter managed to pull up his socks and win the match with the help of a third-set tiebreak.

A positive for Karen Khachanov was his serves and he managed 11 aces. His win percentage on the first serve was 71 which is an impressive number. The seventh seed had to save a couple of break points at the start of the second set, otherwise, things could have been a lot different.

Head-to-Head – 2-1 in favor of Karen Khachanov.

Prediction – Karen Khachanov to win in three sets.
