Nick Kyrgios has his share of haters who dislike his aggressive and brash nature on the court. He has got into verbal fights with the officials and opponents during his matches. However, tennis fans will acknowledge that when it comes to his performance as a player, Kyrgios has been quite a handful, especially, in this year’s Wimbledon competition.

World no. 40 was recently seen practising ahead of his final match. Kyrgios was sporting a Jayson Tatum jersey. The 24-year-old Jayson Tatum plays for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association.

It seems that Kyrgios is a fan of the team founded in 1946. The Celtics have won 17 NBA Championships which is the joint highest for the most titles won by a team in the competition. They currently hold the record for the most recorded wins of any NBA team. The other team having 17 NBA Championships is Los Angeles Lakers.

Nick Kyrgios’ road to the Wimbledon 2022 final

Nick Kyrgios turned pro in 2012. He had not reached the semi-final stage of a Grand Slam until this year’s Wimbledon competition.

He started off his campaign with a hard-fought five-set triumph over Paul Jubb. In the second round, he dominated the proceedings against Filip Krajinovic. The Australian won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-1. The third-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas was the most controversial affair of Wimbledon 2022. Both men got involved in a war of words that continued even after the match. Kyrgios eventually won in four sets after losing the first one.

Kyrgios had his toughest outing against Brandon Nakashima as the 20-year-old took Kyrgios to the limit before eventually losing 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 2-6. The quarter-final match was won quite comprehensively by Kyrgios in straight sets against Cristian Garin.

Nick Kyrgios became the first player in the Open era to get a walkover into the Wimbledon final when Rafael Nadal had to withdraw from the semi-final due to an abdominal injury.
