Charles Leclerc has not had luck on his side both on and off the track as things got worse when he crashed one of the most iconic F1 Ferrari cars in Monaco

Charles Leclerc was amidst numerous other drivers for the 13th Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, which had approximately 200 cars running across the weekend in celebration of cars throughout the years. Drivers from the past and present, took to the famous Monaco track to showcase the cars with Leclerc having the honor of racing around in a 1974 Ferrari F1 car made famous by the late, great Niki Lauda.

While racing around the iconic Monaco track, the 24-year-old seemed to lose the rear end of the car as he headed into La Rascasse, skidding backward into the barriers and causing damage to the rear end of the car. Leclerc momentarily stayed still in the cockpit before beginning a slow exit from the accident, eventually pulling up onto the main straight with smoke billowing from the rear end.

Speaking after the crash, Leclerc said – “I lost the brakes. I lost the brakes! I braked, the pedal was hard, and it went to the floor. I was lucky to have it at that moment, because if I had it at another place, it was no good, the problem is that I got scared. I arrived normally in the corner.”

Charles Leclerc continues to lead the drivers’ championship

Leclerc continues to maintain a slender lead on top of the drivers’ championship despite some disappointing results recently – having failed to win in Imola and Miami.

Ferrari enjoys a lead on top of both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Charles Leclerc leads the drivers’ standings with 104 points while a third race win of the season means Max Verstappen has reduced the gap and occupies second place with 85 points followed by his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez in third place with 66 points.

In the constructors’ championship, Ferrari’s comfortable lead at the top has been reduced drastically by Red Bull. Ferrari leads the table with 157 points but Red Bull is just six points behind them on 151. There is a fair amount of gap between the top 2 teams and the rest of the grid with Mercedes occupying third place having earned 95 points.
