Because New World is a game about conquest and conflict, armor plays an important part and should be one of your first priorities when creating your character’s loadout. Armor is plentiful on Aeternum, fortunately. Unfortunately, this can make choose what parts to equip quite difficult, especially because the game doesn’t spend much time explaining it to you. But, thankfully, this New World armor tutorial is here to help.

Best New World Gear Score

The New World armor score is simply a numerical representation of your armor’s strength. Higher scores imply better armor, and as your manufacturing and forging talents improve, you’ll be more likely to craft armor with higher scores.

New World Armor Rarity

  • Common: Grey background, no perk slots.
  • Uncommon: Green background, one perk slot.
  • Rare: Blue background, two perk slots.
  • Epic: Purple background, three perk slots.
  • Legendary: Gold background, pre-determined high-end perks.

Naturally, you want the highest-rarity armor you can get your hands on, as this allows you to wear more perks, each of which provides different bonuses when worn. New World armor also has a concept called Gear Score that is directly tied to rarity and simply implies that the greater the number, the better the armor’s protection.

New World Armor Classes

New World imposes weight restrictions on your character’s loadout, not just on the contents of their inventory, but also on their weapons and armor. As a result, selecting armor can be a balancing act between assuring the best protection while minimising weight. Carrying too much weight slows down your character’s movement, which is obviously undesirable, especially in combat.

Light Armor

Light armor provides less damage protection in return for more mobility, allowing you to dodge attackers further away. It’s perfect for healers and ranged weapon users like musketeers and archers, who shouldn’t be on the front lines in the first place.

Medium Armor

For most DPS builds, medium armor is a good choice. Your dodge is less effective, but you suffer less damage from foes as a result. It won’t keep you alive in the middle of the battle, but it’s ideal for charging in, performing a few tricks, and then fleeing to recharge.

Heavy Armor

  • Perks: Protection against Elemental Damage and the smallest feasible load on the character. This makes it ideal for both casters and fighting classes who prefer to dodge rather than absorb damage and blows.

4. Lumberjack Set

  • Rarity Level: Uncommon. This is one of many New World armour sets in the game that is linked to resource collection. In the New World, gathering resources such as wood is essential for building and construction, and players will be rewarded for their efforts.
  • Tier Pieces: Five tier pieces, including a hat, shoes, pants, and shirt. This set is available in higher-level variations, all the way up to Epic grade.
  • Perks: Good health and a higher chance of obtaining uncommon goods while logging.

5. Fisherman’s Set

  • Rarity Level: Common. These are likely to be among of a character’s initial high-quality armour set items in New World. It isn’t the most impressive set, but it is really beneficial at lower levels.
  • Tier Pieces: A hat, pants, gloves, boots, and a smock are included in the five-piece set. There are higher-level fishing sets with varied features, but this is the one that comes with the first quests.
  • Perks: Constitution, Strength, Focus, and Dexterity bonuses are all available.
  • How to Get It: As a reward for completing low-level fishing objectives.

6. Explorer’s Set

  • Rarity Level: Only level and crafting abilities limit rarity. Tiers 2 through 5 are available.
  • Tier Pieces: Each tier has five pieces, including a hat, coat, gloves, pants, and boots.
  • Perks: The leather construction is lightweight but robust, making it excellent for travellers. This is a normal PvE set for New World, which is a massive open-world sandbox game.
  • How to Get It: It can be crafted, dropped, or given as a quest reward.
