Yennefer of Vengerberg is a big chafracter in the Witcher series
Although she makes a proper appearance in only one of The Witcher series games, the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg is a popular character among the fans. Here are some of the crazy and unbelievable facts about Yennefer.
The Witcher series garnered a lot of popularity and they continued to make more games. Netflix also made a show on it starring none other than the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill. The series has a lot of different characters. The main focus being on magic, it is no wonder so many mages, sorcerers and witches make an appearance.
One such sorceress is Yennefer of Vengerberg. She has a sharp wit and her on-again-off-again relationship with Geralt of Rivia is fun to watch.
1. Yennefer had an abusive childhood
She had a very rough childhood because of her hunchback. She was constantly ill-treated by those around her. Her father blamed her wife for this disability. Her father thought that it was the half-elven side that caused this. Interestingly, her mother being a half-elf makes Yennefer a quarter elf.
2. Yennefer is quite old
Yennefer looks very young 20s to 30s to be exact. But the worldly wisdom she possesses gives away the fact that she is actually quite old. There is no detailed mention of her age in the show. But by the end of the book series, she is almost a hundred years old.
Being a sorceress, she must have used some of her magic to keep looking so good. She is also infertile. Something which is not caused by her age but something which affects all sorceresses in the Witcher series. She has tried to find a cure for her condition but it is a price she paid for the magic.
3. Past lovers and destiny with Geralt
Throughout the series we see Yennefer having an on-again-off-again relationship with Geralt. But she had two lovers in the past. One was Crach, a Craite, who appeared in the Witcher 3.
The other one is the sorcerer Istredd whom she met at Aretuza. But thanks to magic, Geralt and Yennefer are forever destiny bound together. A side quest in the Witcher 3 can be done to break this bond but otherwise, it is still canon.
4. She is considered a Byronic hero
A Byronic hero is a fictional character that is haunted by a dark secret from his past which makes him moody, arrogant and brooding. We don’t see a Byronic hero who is a woman that often. But she has all the characteristics. She is prone to selfishness, is incredibly ambitious and very intelligent. Her rough childhood also drove he to almost kill herself as she was so depressed and isolated.
5. She can be very cruel and selfish
We see this characteristic multiple times. But did you know that she also brainwashed Geralt and used him as a puppet? This was during their very first encounter. She used him to get revenge against the people who had wronged her.
She has almost killed him many times when she was in a dark place. But we also see her softer side when she is with Cirir. It also means that she will go to great lengths to protect Ciri.
These were some of the crazy facts about Yennefer of Vengerberg. She is a cruel but lovable character. Very few people are able to pull that off.
