Backstage update on the future of former NXT champion Finn Balor amid rumours of main roster return

Finn Balor has made a massive name for himself on WWE NXT. In fact, his name is almost synonymous with the Gold brand now.

He was snapped up by NXT in 2014 from NJPW and had a brilliant two-year run where he became the NXT champion. And then, the call up to the main roster came.

From 2016-19, Balor was given a major push on the main roster. His most prized moment came against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam where he won the Universal title.

But it was all downhill from there. A shoulder injury made him relinquish his title while his later feuds, such as with The Miz and John Morrison for the Intercontinental title, were not that captivating.

He was, as many NXT stars are, lost on the main roster amongst a sea of big names. A return to NXT followed in 2019, and an update on his future now says that he is here to stay on the Gold brand amid rumours of him making a return to the main roster after recent losses.

Finn Balor to stay at NXT unless main roster has major push planned for him in the future

Recently, Balor lost his NXT title to Karrion Kross at NXT: Stand & Deliver. He then lost in a rematch on NXT earlier this week, which made fans think if this was it for Balor on NXT.

It could have been a ploy by WWE to make Balor vacate his title Kross in two deserved losses before they could push ‘The Demon’ to either the Red or Blue brand.

But as it turns out, he is here to stay on NXT unless the main roster has major plans for the Irishman. This is according to a tweet by WrestlingVotes (h/t ewrestling.com):

“Regarding Finn Balor: I’m told members of the RAW creative team have asked for him for months now. No edict has come down from the top yet yanking him from Orlando. The NXT crew adores Balor so unless the main roster has major plans for him, I’d think he’s OK where he is.”

Fans would hate to see Balor vacate a good thing that he has going on at NXT to become a small fish in a big sea. But for now, it seems like The Irish Captor is here to stay.
