Mick Foley opens up on brutal WWE WrestleMania moment with Edge
WWE Hall of Famer, Mick Foley has shed light on his big WrestleMania moment that came about in a brutal bout against Edge.
The said match went down in WrestleMania 22, in 2006, at a time when Foley was fast approaching the end of his in-ring career while Edge had just lost his WWE Championship to John Cena.
Foley, despite having had many big moments throughout his illustrious WWE career, hadn’t had one on WrestleMania.
“I started hearing the whispers, whether they were there or not I don’t know. But, I heard them nonetheless. The whispers that said, ‘He’s never had a magic WrestleMania moment’. And it bothered me.”
And, he and Edge went about to address that in the most brutal fashion possible in a hardcore match.
Foley thanks Edge for WrestleMania moment
Foley and Edge put on a brutal battle that had the former use a barbed wire sack while there were barbed wire bats involved, which Lita used to hit Foley right before the shocking finish, where Edge would spear Foley through a table lit on fire for the win.
Throughout the bout, there were many such moments that left the audience in shock and gasping. One such move would see, Foley, with Lita on his back, run through Edge as all three flew over the top rope and landed on the floor.
Recalling those moments on Twitter, Foley thanked Edge for helping him create his WrestleMania moment. The Hardcore Legend also praised Lita for the way she took the bumps in the battle, particularly in that over the top rope moment.
Foley, throughout his wrestling career, put on hardcore classics. And his battle with Edge was no different. The duo was left bloodied, battered and bruised after the fight. It has even been said that Edge went into shock after the match.
Foley is happily retired now but Edge could be set for another major WrestleMania moment this weekend, when he takes on Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan in a triple-threat match for the WWE Universal Championship.
There may not be any blood or barbed wire or flaming tables in this one. But expect the trio to put up a brilliant show this Sunday at WrestleMania 37.
