“Old days of the Attitude Era” – Mark Henry compares one SmackDown moment Stone Cold Steve Austin thrashing WWE

Mark Henry says Kevin Owens rolled back the clock on SmackDown and reminded him of Stone Cold Steve Austin

Last week’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown revolved around confirming the 6 participants for the Elimination Chamber match later this month.

It was decided between Paul Heyman and Adam Pearce that the winner of the Elimination Chamber match would then take on Roman Reigns for his belt in the main event later that day.

Jey Uso and Kevin Owens were, of course, the first two participants. Sami Zayn and King Corbin were the next in line. Then, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan confirmed their berth.

However, after Cesaro and Bryan’s tag team match, they were attacked by Uso, Zayn, and Corbin. Following this, Owens made his way to the ring and delivered a Stunner to everyone in sight.

He then took a chair, sat inside the ring, and fired a warning to ‘The Big Dog’.

And on this week’s episode of the Busted Open podcast, Mark Henry likened to this when Stone Cold Steve Austin caused a similar carnage with his Stunners during the Attitude Era.

“Everything revolves around Roman Reigns. You see Kevin Owens come in, and he is Stunnin’. It looked like the old days of the Attitude Era when Steve Austin was running roughshod over the company. I really enjoyed that. It was kind of a breath of fresh air to see old school type pro-wrestling brought back to the front.”

Delivering stunners like Stone Cold Steve Austin only mean something if it leads to gold

It seems that Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns will continue with their feud until at least Elimination Chamber.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the promotion has been forced to continue their rivalry. SmackDown is apparently devoid of talent that can math Reigns and hence, the two are still going at it.

Owens has failed on his last 3 attempts to win the WWE Universal championship and would be hoping that it’s fourth-time lucky at next week’s PPV.

He lost at TLC 2020, the new year’s episode of SmackDown, and most recently, the Royal Rumble.

Quite frankly, it does not look like WWE will snatch the belt from Reigns and it might take until at least WrestleMania 37 to see a new champion.
