James Gunn confirms future of Batista in Guardians of the Galaxy films regarding Drax character

Batista recently claimed that he might not be able to play Drax the Destroyer after Guardians of the Galaxy 3 releases

Batista is one of the best examples of a WWE star doing a great job in the movie business. The former WWE champion hasn’t wrestled in a couple of years but has made several movie roles his own.

He was in Blade Runner 2049, Riddick and many more. However, he will be remembered for taking up the role of Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel movie series.

Batista has featured in four Marvel films and the third instalment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series is set to be released in 2023.

He is also filming for another Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, and he recently spoke about his future in the Marvel Universe.

An article suggested that Drax would last be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. However, Batista claimed that he would possibly become too old for the role after Guardians 3 and that Drax would be played by someone else:

“Drax isn’t going anywhere. He just won’t be played by this dude! by the time G3 comes out I’ll be 54 yrs old for gods sake! im expecting everything to start sagging any second now.”

Recasting has always been a bit of a problem in the movie industry but Guardians director, James Gunn, shared his thoughts on all this.

James Gunn unlikely to recast Drax in future movies

Gunn has made the Guardians franchise one of the most fun superhero movies in recent years and confirmed that there would be no Drax without Batista.

While this seemed a little complex, another fan brought up the question of recasting stars and Gunn confirmed that Drax without Batista was not possible.

Batista could still act in a few more movies in the Marvel series. However, he is right in saying that his body might not be the same when the fourth movie comes out.

Marvel could still use him and have a ton of CGI to keep Batista in the movies, and it will be interesting to see how things work out in the future.
