WWE star Drew McIntyre speaks about how his mother’s death affected his personal and professional life

Drew McIntyre was infamously released from WWE in 2014. Talking on the SeventySix Capital Leadership Series this week, he revealed that it was partly due to the devastating loss of his mother.

‘The Chosen One’ said that his mother’s death made him unmotivated to do anything. His mother, Angela, died in November 2012.

“…but eventually when she passed, that was, you know, the worst moment of my life. I just didn’t care about anything. I was just going to work and just not having a care in the world, I was acting out… and eventually, I got fired.”

The Scotsman added that him being fired was down to no one but himself. McIntyre blamed himself for losing perspective and for wanting too much, too soon.

He credits his wife, Kaitlyn Frohnapfel, for helping him get back up on his feet and make a comeback.

“…and my personal life, I was very fortunate to meet my wife right now. She was a huge inspiration to me, uplifting me up, and helping me become a better person. So as I started building my career outside of WWE, she was helping me grow up a lot…”

Drew McIntyre is now the face of WWE

McIntyre revealed that after he was fired from WWE, he started working hard and changed his perspective regarding his career.

He was later hired again by WWE in April 2017. Making his way up to the top from the bottom, Drew McIntyre first won the NXT championship and is now the WWE champion.

His rise has been so astronomical that even Goldberg could not take the title away from him at Royal Rumble last month.

The Chosen One has slowly become one of the faces of the promotion alongside stars such as Roman Reigns and Edge.

And, it is largely down to his hard work, for which he deserves a lot of credit.
