AEW vs NXT ratings: Both promotions put on great shows but it was the new boy that won the Wednesday War this week

AEW vs NXT ratings: NXT were beaten by AEW in the Wednesday war after the 4 March 2020 shows.

Both brands put up interesting main events and brought in several big stars, but it was AEW that raced ahead for another week.

The ‘Wednesday Night Wars’, as it has been dubbed in recent months, seems to be sliding towards AEW, despite several quality matches on NXT.

AEW did play one special card in all this. They surprised everyone with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts coming on the show and threatening Cody Rhodes with his new client.

Another factor that would have played big for AEW is that this was the post-Revolution show which saw Jon Moxley win the title from Chris Jericho.

The third factor that might have helped AEW was the tease that Brodie Lee (Luke Harper from WWE) was going to make an appearance.

Bryan Alvarez posted the numbers for both shows, and AEW was almost 200,000 ahead of the WWE brand in terms of viewership.

Some fans questioned why AEW couldn’t surge to a million after a PPV, and that they also had to bring in a legend like Roberts to beat NXT.

Big matches on NXT

AEW did a pretty good job with their package as we also saw the debut of Colt Cabana. Hangman Page continued his rivalry with the Bucks while Moxley was beaten down by the Inner Circle.

PAC also created a new faction called ‘The Death Triangle’ with The Lucha Bros.

However, NXT had packed up their card with two big steel cage matches. They also brought out a new challenger for Keith Lee and saw Johnny Gargano put on a great promo.

There were some surprises too with The Broserweights getting beat up by their new challengers.

However, the important story came right at the end for NXT. Velveteen Dream faced Roderick Strong in the steel cage.

The Dream had to face off against the other members of the Undisputed Era but caused a bit of madness in the end.

Apart from targeting Strong and his wife, Marina Shafir, he also made a move for Adam Cole’s NXT crown.

Dream locked himself in the cage with Cole after tossing Strong out to lose the match. He then pummelled Cole before celebrating by picking up the title to end NXT.

AEW Dynamite also did their bit by having a handicap match, of sorts, as the main event. Darby Allin fought hard against the Inner Circle but the heels teamed up to send the new champion, Moxley, through a table.
