We may finally know where exactly the SmackDown fist is after all these years
Back in mid-2001, Rhyno smashed Chris Jericho through the SmackDown screen which would be the start of the Blue brand’s rise.
On its second anniversary in August 2001, WWE SmackDown got a new stage. It featured a giant Fist with titantrons on either side.
That SmackDown fist became synonymous with the rise of the Blue brand over the years when it was clearly Vince McMahon’s second favourite son.
But after a time, the SmackDown fist was displaced and the Blue brand had a set akin to RAW. Actually, of WWE’s weekly shows now feature a homogenous set to some extent.
In that regard, SmackDown’s throwback episode later this week has fans excited that the Fist could be making its comeback.
Drew McIntyre says he is in possession of the SmackDown fist
Cesaro posted about the throwback SmackDown episode and asked WWE to bring back the Fist on the 7th May episode.
Drew McIntyre replied to that tweet with a photo of himself in the WWE warehouse, possibly in Connecticut, with the SmackDown fist and the Phenom logo. He tweeted in reply to the ‘Swiss Cyborg’:
“No luck buddy, I was allowed souvenirs from my trip to the warehouse. I now have the [SmackDown Fist] and a sweet new chair”
Well that’s a let down then. But it is amazing to see how far SmackDown has come to be toe-to-toe with RAW now.
It is something that NXT would be aspiring for the future as well. But the WWE Universe might not be that big to accommodate three main rosters. We’ll see what happens…
