The Irish star was the inaugural WWE Universal title but had to vacate it due to an injury. However, that is just one small part of his legacy. Balor has done a lot of great work in Japan too and holds several records to his name.
Balor has several nicknames too such as the Demon, Prince and The Demon Price, and the Irishman seems set to become a top star on WWE again.
Finn Balor Early career
Balor, real name Fergal Devitt, trained at the NWA UK Hammerlock and made his debut for them at the age of 18 in 2000. Devitt also started NWA Ireland and that became a sister group of NWA UK Hammerlock.
It was in 2005 that Balor also started appearing in Japan. New Japan Pro-Wrestling came calling in 2006 and this was where Balor grew further.
The 38-year-old fought several top talents in Japan including the Motor City Machine Guns and other TNA stars such as Christopher Daniels and Senshi too.
Balor also formed Apollo 55 with Ryusuke Taguchi and that team is regarded as one of the greatest tag teams in NJPW history.
There was more to come from Balor apart from winning a lot of titles such as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.
Finn Balor Bullet Club
The Irishman is credit for creating one of the greatest heel stables in NJPW history. Balor was one of the original members of the non-Japanese group.
Balor, Tama Tonga, Bad Luck Fate and Karl Anderson were the original members of the stable. Many other top stars have been part of the Bullet Club, including Adam Cole, Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes.
Finn Balor WWE calling
Balor signed with WWE in 2014 and joined NXT, the then development brand of the company. He defeated Kevin Owens to win the NXT title and was the longest-serving champion until Cole recently beat that mark.
In 2016, Balor was picked in the WWE Draft and moved to Raw. Balor’s rise soared as he faced Seth Rollins to become the first Universal Champion.
He made history by becoming the first person to win a world title in their PPV debut. However, that was short-lived as Balor injured his shoulder and had to vacate his title.
He had several other feuds after coming back to action and has held other titles too. Balor also held the WWE Intercontinental Championship but then returned to the NXT brand again as a tweener character. He returned after a two-month absence and is in a rivalry with Damien Priest presently. After a succesfull NXT run and a second NXT championship reign, Balor returned on the main-roster again.
Balor’s second run on the main roster started on a lackluster note but soon gained pace after his heel turn against Edge and eventual alignment with Damien Priest and Rhea Ripley into, The Judgement Day.
Finn Balor Relationships
Finn Balor was in a relationship with former WWE host Cathy Kelley. The pair were seen together at several shows, but it soon got over.
Balor was then dating Fox Sports host Veronica Rodriguez. The pair made their relationship official by tying the knot on 24 August 2019, and have shared several photos of their marriage on social media.
