Wolves Opinion: Why Nuno should make a summer swoop for Bruma?

Wolves have been an exciting team to watch in the Premier League this season, with the Midlands outfit exceeding expectations upon their return to the top-flight. They currently sit seventh in the table and have arguably been the best team outside the Big Six, with the fans now dreaming of playing in Europe next season.

There is a realistic chance for Wolves of claiming a berth in the Europa League playoffs given how they have performed thus far. Some quality additions over the summer transfer window would certainly give a huge boost to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in Europe next term, provided they manage to hold onto the seventh spot in the table.

A brilliant signing would be RB Leipzig’s explosive winger—Bruma, who was heavily linked with a move to Wolves in 2017 when he was playing for Galatasaray back then. However, a move to the Premier League failed to materialise and he joined RB Leipzig later that year.

Bruma

Bruma enjoyed a fantastic first season at RB Leipzig, contributing seven goals and two assists in the Bundesliga. However, the Portugal international hasn’t been able to replicate his last season’s form after finding himself in and out of the team so far this campaign. But one certainly cannot deny the winger’s quality and able to change the course of games in a blink of an eye.

To put things into perspective, Wolves should reignite their interest in Bruma and a make a move for him this summer to replace the struggling Adama Traore. It won’t be fair to write off a player before his first season at the club but Traore, who arrived at Molineux amidst a lot of fanfare from Middlesbrough in the summer, hasn’t done anything spectacular in the Premier League.

Nuno should stick with Traore for now and may be for another season as well, but there won’t be any harm to the team if he brings in Bruma. Truly, Bruma would be an upgrade on Traore, who hasn’t set the world alight since joining Wolves.

Bruma could add another spike to the Wolves’ wheel in the attack and make them a more dangerous side to come up against. Playing mainly as a left winger, the Portuguese flyer can also operate from the right and as an attacking midfielder and would be a welcome attacking talent at Molineux.

The Guinea-Bissau-born star combines his raw pace and silky dribbling skills to rip apart defences without breaking much sweat. The Portugal international is an unpredictable player that can change direction in a split-second to leave the defender on the floor.

Furthermore, Bruma operates with a lot of energy and intensity and loves to have a pop on goal from distance whenever given an opportunity.

Verdict

An attacker of Bruma’s quality would be a brilliant addition for Wolves and hence, Nuno shouldn’t hesitate to spend big to sign the 24-year-old this summer.
