Wolves Opinion: Andre Silva would be a fantastic signing for Nuno Santo

According to the Calciomercato, Wolves are interested in signing Portuguese international forward Andre Silva in the summer, with Monaco, Valencia and Barcelona also weighing up moves for the 23-year-old AC Milan star.

Silva has netted 11 goals from 39 appearances in all competitions on his loan spell at Sevilla this season and the La Liga side are unlikely to sign him permanently for a fee of €43 million. (h/t Calciomercato)

All the four clubs mentioned above have close ties with Silva’s agent Jorge Mendes and the Iberian super agent’s involvement could be central to the outcome of this transfer saga in the summer.

Mendes had a big hand in bringing Portuguese players like Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Helder Costa, João Moutinho and Rui Patricio to Molineux and his links with Nuno Espirito Santo could give Wolves an upper hand in their pursuit of the talented centre-forward.

A youth product of FC Porto, Silva burst on to the scene in the 2016-17 season, scoring 21 goals in all competitions for his boyhood club and also playing a key role in their Champions League campaign.

His exploits at Porto earned him a big-money move to AC Milan in the summer of 2017 but the Portuguese international failed to replicate his heroics in the San Siro.

He was loaned out to Sevilla after a lacklustre first season at Milan  and it looks unlikely that he is going to challenge for a first-team spot under Gennaro Gattuso next term, with Patrick Cutrone and Krzysztof Piatek firing all guns blazing.

Silva’s stocks have been on the decline since his move to Milan but that should not discourage Wolves if they are genuinely interested in the player.

Still only 23, Silva is yet to enter his prime as a centre-forward and a move to Molineux might help him rediscover his goalscoring mojo. He featured at the World Cup for Portugal and has already played for clubs like AC Milan and Sevilla so early in his career.

Hence, it is quite obvious that he is a really talented player and working with a charismatic manager like Nuno Santo might bring the best out of him.

Wolves have been flying high on their return to the Premier League following a six-year absence and they currently find themselves 7th in the standings after a remarkable season.

They are right on course towards securing a Europa League qualification spot next season and Silva can be the perfect signing to take the club to greater heights.

Raul Jimenez has been a key figure for them in the final third, and while signing the Mexican permanently at the end of the season should be high on the manager’s wishlist, Nuno Santo can also consider splashing the cash on Silva to add more depth to their attacking options.

Ivan Cavaleiro and Helder Costa have impressed in patches but Silva can help the team improve massively with his quality on the ball and poaching instincts inside the box.

Blessed with the instincts of an old-school centre-forward, Silva is a fox inside the box kind of a striker who relies on his awareness and game reading ability to position himself perfectly to get on the end of through balls and passes.

Good in the air and quite fast across the ground, Silva is a technically-gifted striker who excels with his subtle offensive movement inside the box, whilst also possessing the passing ability to link up effectively with his teammates in and around the penalty area.

Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez have been amongst Wolves’ standout performers of the season but Silva’s acquisition can turn the team into a formidable force next term. That said, they should not hesitate to invest in the talented Portuguese international this summer.
