Why Yunus Musah would be a good long-term signing for Wolves

According to 90min (h/t Birmingham Mail), Wolves are said to be interested in Yunus Musah of Valencia. The youngster, who has taken La Liga by storm this season with his performances, has attracted the attention of a multitude of Premier League clubs such as former club Arsenal and Leeds United.

Yunus Musah is a 17-year-old British-American forward who plays for La Liga side Valencia. He started his youth career at Giorgione in 2000. After 12 years, he made the move to London where he joined Arsenal’s academy.

Spending the next 8 years in the youth setup, he was promoted to the U-18 side in 2018. Over the next season, he would go on to make 18 appearances, scoring 5 and assisting 3. However, he would go on to sign for Valencia in 2019.

On joining the club, he was drafted to the ‘B’ side and went on to play for them that season making a total of 23 appearances across all competitions. At the start of this season, due to Valencia’s financial conditions and a flurry of player sales, Musah was drafted into the first-team despite being just 17. He has started in nine of their eleven league games this season, scoring once against Getafe. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The youngster played his youth football for England and had the choice to play for the USA, Ghana and Italy at senior level. He chose to play for the US and has already been capped twice for them.

Musah would be a good long-term investment for Wolves

Wolves are somewhat very good at snapping up relatively famous or not-so-famous youngsters early in their careers and slowly integrate them into the first-team. The name of Ruben Neves comes to mind in that regard.

A huge reason for Wolves showing interest in the Valencia winger is the contract issues between the club and Adama Traore. The explosive winger has yet to commit to a new deal and Wolves could be making contingency plans for a probable departure.

Yunus Musah can be seen as a potential replacement given the player is a natural right-winger. His ability to play in midfield would only add to the appeal. Wolves would get a player who can develop into one of the finest young players and snapping him up from Valencia would be easy given the financial impact of COVID-19 on the La Liga club.
