Why Wolves should sign M’bala Nzola to add more depth to their attack

According to Tuttomercato (h/t Birmingham Live), Wolves have been touted to make a move for M’Bala Nzola of Spezia in the January transfer window. His agent has mentioned interest from English clubs which, according to the report, are Newcastle and West Ham.

Profile

M’Bala Nzola is a 24-year-old French forward who plays for Serie A side Spezia. He started his youth career at Troyes in 2010 and spent 4 years progressing through the youth levels. After that, he moved to Academica’s U-19 side. He spent two seasons there, making two appearances for the senior side.

In 2016, Virtus Francavilla signed him as he went on to make 39 appearances for the side, scoring 13 goals and providing 6 assists. A year later, he was sold to Carpi FC but he couldn’t gather many appearances there. Within one season, he was loaned out to Trapani.

Trapani made his loan deal permanent as he went on to play 50 games for them, scoring 10 goals and assisting 2 more (source – Transfermarkt). At the start of 2020, he was signed by Spezia and he has enjoyed a fruitful spell for them so far with 10 goal contributions in 25 games.

Nzola would add some valuable depth to the Wolves attack

Wolves have had a mixed start to the season with 4 wins from their 8 league games. A notable thing this season has been their lack of goals this season. A paltry 8 goals have been scored so far, which brings it down to an average of one goal per game. The usually reliable Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore have been a bit off-colour this season.

The club did bring in Fabio Silva during the summer for big money. However, he is still just 18 years old and has played just 51 minutes of Premier League football. They could really use an experienced alternative to Jimenez given his struggles this season.

M’Bala Nzola might not be a prominent name but he is certainly one that the club can use right now. The forward has started life in Serie A well with 3 goal contributions in 4 games. He is an experienced player in Italy with lots of experience in Serie B and C. The Spezia man can be a good backup to Jimenez.
