Wolves Opinion: Why Jean Michael Seri will be a good fit for Nuno’s Wolves?

Fulham’s season hasn’t gone according to the scripts and with just eight games left in the Premier League campaign, relegation back to the Championship is looking very much likely.

A 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday means the Cottagers are now 13 points off safety. Relegation to the Championship will certainly see a lot of players leave Craven Cottage in the summer. One such player could be Jean Michael Seri, who was signed from OGC Nice last summer on a four-year contract, with an option for further year.

Seri, 27, represented a big coup for the newly-promoted Fulham then but less than a season in, the Ivorian has failed to live up to the massive expectations of the fans. There have been glimpses of his quality; in fact, he had started the season well and scored a screamer against Burnley as well.

However, the 27-year-old was bullied easily off the ball and lost possession at times in crucial junctures of the game, while his teammates’ constant poor showing didn’t do any favours to him either. In spite of everything, Wolves should make a summer swoop for Seri after Fulham’s relegation.

Wolves have exactly been polar opposite to what Fulham have been in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have surpassed their expectations upon their return to the top-flight and are currently fighting for a place in the Europa League.

The club showed a lot of ambition by backing Nuno in the summer transfer window. But if Wolves are to challenge the ‘Big Six’ and do well in Europe next season, they’ll need to invest again on the squad.

One of the areas the Midlands outfit should strengthen is the midfield, with Joao Moutinho set to turn 33 in September and Ruben Neves a summer transfer target for Manchester United.

Jean Michael Seri may have not set the Premier League on fire in his debut season but there is no denying his qualities that make him an ideal fit for Nuno’s Wolves.

He is a very good passer of the ball and has an incredible vision to create chances for his attackers. The 27-year-old is versatile enough to fit into a couple of other positions in both attacking and defensive aspects.

Seri reads the game well and would add a lot of thrust and energy to the Wolves midfield. With one long pass or through ball, the Ivorian can open up the opposition’s defence and create a chance for his teammates to score.

Conclusion

The 27-year-old is a solid midfielder and his calmness, composure, energy and work-rate will be invaluable assets to Wolves. Nuno needs to add Seri to his ranks if Wolves are to challenge for a place in the top six next season.

That said, the Midlands outfit should do everything in their powers to lure Seri away from Fulham in the summer.
