Why Wolves must make a move for Armin Gigovic

According to Birmingham Mail, Swedish starlet Armin Gigovic is on the radar of Premier League side Wolves.

18-year-old midfielder Gigovic is one of the upcoming young talents from Sweden and has already grabbed a lot of attention due to his exploits with Helsingborgs IF.

It has been a breakthrough campaign for the teenager, who has broken into the first-team line-up at Helsingborgs under new boss Olof Mellberg. Gigovic made 14 league appearances for the Swedish first-division side this season and has one goal to his credit.

With his on-field displays improving with time, Gigovic has featured in 14 of their last 16 league outings, giving a clear idea of the talent that he is. The young midfielder has been a part of five of their 8 wins in the league this term, which speaks volumes about his worth in the current line-up.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Gigovic is also comfortable playing in a variety of roles in the midfield – something which he has already proved with his Swedish under-17 side.

The teenage midfielder has so far played eight times for his country’s youth side and has scored and assisted once in the process. With the youngster swiftly rising up through the ranks at Helsingborgs this season, it is not a big surprise that Wolves have shown an interest in him.

Gigovic could be a good future investment for Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves have enjoyed one of their strongest campaigns in recent times this season after climbing to 6th place in the league table. They are just five points short of fourth-placed Chelsea and are looking to secure a Champions League spot when the season resumes after the long break due to the coronavirus crisis.

However, Nuno needs to bring in reinforcements in order for his side to stay on top in the long run. They currently have just two defensive midfielders – Ruben Neves and Leander Dendoncker.

Though both are regulars in the side, Dendoncker has mostly been deployed in the centre-back role by Nuno this season, meaning Wolves could do with one more defensive midfielder in their squad.

They also have Joao Moutinho in the side, who plays alongside Neves in a deeper role compared to his preferred attacking role. Moreover, he will turn 34 this September and is clearly nearing the end of his career. Considering all this, Wolves should rope in Gigovic as he could prove to be an excellent future investment for the club if he fulfills his potential.

Verdict

Given Wolves’ dearth of defensive midfielders, Gigovic’s arrival will only make them stronger. Moreover, he is still in his teens and can develop even more under Nuno’s guidance. His versatility in the middle will also offer Nuno plenty of options in the future and help his side stay at the top. Hence, they should quickly make a move for the young Gigovic.
