Wolves or Southampton, who needs Bundesliga star Jean Kevin Augustin more?

Everton were leading the race for the 21-year-old striker, according to the Daily Mail. Now, it seems that both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton have taken charge (via the Sun) as the two sides are looking to add attacking reinforcements.

There have been no reports linking Marco Silva’s side with a move for a little over a month but with Ralph Hasenhuttl joining the Saints, the former RB Leipzig boss does have an advantage.

However, the question for Jean-Kevin Augustin to answer is which Premier League side needs him more and suits his style of play?

A well-built and powerful forward, Augustin as a former winger possesses a great deal of pace and is more than agile enough to threaten any back-line. But what makes him a good striker is the 21-year old’s directness and ability to score goals from anywhere.

The Frenchman finished last season 12 goals and six assists in his debut season with the club and made Leipzig a force to be reckoned with alongside Timo Werner.  While he struggled to make an impact for PSG, his time in the Bundesliga like many before and many after shows exactly what Jean-Kevin Augustin can do.

However, this season has seen a change in his game time which does help his suitors. With the rise of Yussuf Poulsen, Augustin’s chances have reduced at Leipzig and thus this makes him open to a move, with Wolves and Southampton interested.

However, it’s the Molineux Stadium side that should win the race, given the clear advantages for the 21-year-old striker.

At the moment, Wolves are chasing after a Europa League spot and need another striker to help them do that. While Raul Jimenez is Nuno Espirito Santo’s main centre-forward, Augustin offers something totally different which is useful. Not to mention, Santo’s style of football has won plaudits over this season with Wolves playing free-flowing attacking football, something Augustin would thrive in.

On the other hand, Southampton’s current position in the Premier League doesn’t help them. While Ralph Hasenhuttl has managed to lift the club, their status as a Premier League side is still questionable and the former RB Leipzig manager’s style of play is not something that will allow Jean-Kevin Augustin to flourish in.

But while the Saints do have an advantage given Hasenhuttl’s relationship with his former side, Wolves would be the better side for the 21-year-old to join.
